On May 13, 2025 Scott Alan Mitchell passed from this earthly life into a glorious eternal life with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Scott was born October 14, 1958 to Dr. James and Carol Ensminger Mitchell in Carbondale, Illinois. He grew up in Kansas City, Missouri, later moving to Burlington Kansas with his family.
While living in Missouri, archery played a large role in the Mitchell family's life. In 1974, Scott won the Missouri state junior indoor archery championship with dreams of going to the Olympics.
As a young man, Scott became an EMT and worked for the Coffey County Ambulance Service in Burlington. As an EMT, and later in other roles in his life, Scott could be counted on to be calm and rational in difficult situations.
In the fall of 1981, Scott's life was changed forever when he received Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.
Scott served for many years as a children's pastor and youth pastor. The kids loved his stories, jokes and zany sense of humor. He was also an accomplished self-taught guitarist and was a member of the worship team in every church he attended.
In mid-life, Scott found his calling as a licensed chemical dependence counselor, working at La Hacienda Treatment Center in Hunt, Texas. He loved his job and the people he worked with. He considered his work a ministry unto the Lord.
Scott's children and grandchildren were the joy of his life. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and a loyal friend. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Janice Garrett Mitchell, his sons, Luke Mitchell and Daniel Mitchell, daughter-in-law Nicole, grandchildren Elijah and Eliana, his brother Chris and sister-in-law Donna and many other family and friends.
Without complaint, Scott endured a long illness, maintaining his sense of humor and love for family till his last days. He truly fought the good fight until the Lord called him home. Although he will be greatly missed, we rejoice he is now alive with Christ, receiving his heavenly inheritance and hearing those precious words, well done, thy good and faithful servant.
A funeral service celebrating Scott's life will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at 10:00 AM in the sanctuary of Westover Hills Church, located at 9430 Westover Hills Blvd, San Antonio, TX 78251.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in Scott's memory to one of his cherished charities: Samaritan's Purse https://samaritanspurse.org, One Child https://onechild.org , or Strong Foundation https://strongfoundation.org .
Scott's legacy of love, service, and humor will live on in the many lives he touched.
