Mr. Marcus L. Williams, affectionately known as "Turk," passed away on May 21, 2025, at Hospice of High Point. He was born on December 23, 1975, to Teresa Williams McManus and the late Eddie Peak, Jr. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Charles Williams (Florence) and Eddie Peak, Sr., and his aunt, Sharon Reed.
Marcus attended Andrews High School in High Point, NC, where he received numerous awards and recognitions, including the Outstanding Academic Achievement award and the Presidential Academic Fitness Award Program for the 1986-1987 academic year, signed by the President of the United States. Additionally, He was also a leader of the football team and graduated with honors as part of the class of 1994.
He continued his education at Davidson College in Davidson, NC, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in English. After working as a financial advisor, Marcus decided to teach English abroad. He moved to Busan and taught children in Vietnam, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Most recently, he became the head of the English department in Dibba Al-Fujairah. Marcus has traveled to 47 countries, which has allowed him to learn and speak several different languages.
He is survived by his parents, Teresa McManus and William; his grandparents, Peggie and Kenny David; his godparents, Rhond Jones McIntosh and Cornelius Quick; and his siblings: Kevin Sturgues (Lakisha), Edison Sturgues, Jr., David McManus (Lakisha), Jermaine McManus (Sharon), Angela McManus, Shavonda Cuthrell, Marquita Harris (Roger), and Antione Peak. He is also remembered by special friends Suzie Delima of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and Mia Colden of Dubai, United Arab Emirates, along with many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and numerous friends.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, May 31, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at Temple Memorial Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Guil-Rand Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:30 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. Mr. Williams may be viewed on Friday, May 30, 2025 at Phillips Funeral Service from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
