ROY IRVING WRIGHT affectionately known to all as “Uncle Irv,” was born February 7, 1946, in Bronx, NY to the late Royal Lee and France Bagley Wright. On May 19, 2025, he peacefully departed this life at his residence in South Hill, VA. He was also preceded in death by his sisters- Frances E. Wright and Marjorie L. Headon.

Later he was baptized and joined Jerusalem United Church of Christ, Palmer Springs, VA.

Irving graduated from Bronx Vocational High School in 1964. He enjoyed a long and successful career at Gerson & Gerson, Incorporated in New York City as a carpentry display person.

Irving was caring, loyal, and passionate to his family and friends, always sharing his strength and intelligence with his loved ones. He was a one-of-a-kind. He would welcome all with open and nurturing arms into his home. Irving went through life giving of himself to others without desiring anything in return.

Irving loved setting up his electric “Lionel Train Sets,” doing puzzles, and creating landscapes at his home.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his two daughters- Ivy Winns and Kim Allen, both of Bronx, NY; seven grandchildren- Derrick Winns, Kenbridge, VA; Erica Swinney, Bronx, NY; India Winns, Emporia, VA; Steven Dozier, Bronx, NY; Keonna Stephens, Queens, NY; Kenya Dozier and Kenyetta Winns, both of Bronx, NY; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters- Selma Bacote, Boydton, VA and devoted caregiver- Shirley (Joe) Dixon, of the home; brother-in-law, Henry Headen, South Hill, VA; aunt- Bertha White, Boydton, VA, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
