Derrick Leon Gaston entered eternal rest on May 5, 2025 in Alexandria, Virginia. The son of Bettie L. Gaston and Robert D. Gaston, Sr., he was born in Arlington, Virginia on January 26, 1971. Derrick was a twin in the third set of twins born to his parents.

Derrick accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and was baptized at a young age. He was a member of Bolling Hill Baptist Church in Madison Heights, Virginia. Derrick graduated from Amherst County High School in Amherst, Virginia in 1989. He was a member of the football team while in high school.

After graduating from high school, Derrick started a career at the Marriott Corporation. He worked at the Crystal Gateway Marriott hotel in Arlington for thirty-four years. He enjoyed his job and often referred to it as “going to a party”. He was known at work for his positive attitude, music and interesting earrings.

Derrick had a passion for horses. He collected all things related to horses. One of his most exciting adventures was a trip to a horse ranch in Texas where he rode a horse for the first time. He enjoyed travelling as well as building with Lego sets. He was a Washington Commanders fan.

Derrick was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Bettie Gaston and four siblings, Emmanuel, Samuel, Marietta and Marguerite. He leaves to cherish his memory his twin brother, Dwayne (Deborah) of Woodbridge, Virginia; sister, Sylvia (Marvin) of Flemington, New Jersey; sister, Delores of Manassas, Virginia and brother, Robert Jr. of Wilmington, Delaware. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins and relatives and friends to mourn.
