On Friday morning, May 23, 2025, our beloved one, Mr. Thomas “Bowman” R. Cheeks of 950 Patch Drive, Spartanburg, South Carolina answered the
Master’s call. Son of the late Mr. James and Mrs. Annie Ross, he was born on April 05,1949 in Union, South Carolina.
He was preceded in death by four children: one daughter, Ms. Shante Edmondson, three sons, Mr. Raymond Austin, Mr. Thomas Ross, and Mr. Kendrick Thompson, three sisters, Mrs. Debra Bushee, Mrs. Peggy Cheeks, and Mrs. Myrtle Benson, and two brothers, Mr. Sam Ross and Mr. Jesse Ross.
He attended school in Spartanburg Co, South Carolina, and later moved to Washington, D.C. He was employed by Allied Lumber Company where he
drove tractor trailers. There, he met his special partner, Betty Richardson. After retirement he moved back to South Carolina where he re - entered the
workforce working with his sons at Tropical Foods Company of Cowpens.
Bowman enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Fishing, playing horseshoes, listening to music, and playing spades were some of his
hobbies. He loved gospel music with one of his favorite artist being his uncle Reverend Julius Cheeks. We loved him, his presence will always be with us.
He is survived by: two daughters, Ms. Angela Austin of Boiling Springs, South Carolina and Ms. Yolanda Edmondson of Brandywine, Maryland; one son, Mr. Venard Ross of Cowpens, South Carolina; one brother, Mr. Kennedy Ross, of Washington D.C.; three sisters, Ms. Mary Winbush, Ms. Jackie Pollum, and Ms. Rayshone Ross, all of Washington, D.C.;one aunt, Ms. Clairese Brewton, of Spartanburg South Carolina; a special child reared in the home, Chylar Richardson; two of his partner’s children, Gloria Hubbard and Tawanda Hubbard; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
