Kathryne Millns Evans, age 77, of New Bern, NC, died on May 25, 2025. Born in Berea, Ohio in December 1947, Kathy and her family moved to North Carolina where she spent her formative years. She graduated from New Bern High School 1965 and Saint Mary’s College in 1967. Shortly after, she returned to New Bern to raise her family, build a successful career, and eventually retire.
As she raised her three young daughters, Kathy embarked on a career as a banker, starting as a loan officer and climbing the ranks to branch manager and then vice resident where she successfully managed several bank mergers. This led to a career change into healthcare administration where she managed the merger of two medical practices. She continued on this path until her well-deserved retirement.
Kathy is remembered as a loving mother, Mimi, aunt, and friend to those around her. She adored her grandchildren and loved spending time with them. She touched the lives of many, embracing life with a servant’s heart. An active member of Christ Episcopal Church since she was a young girl, Kathy served as a Lay Eucharistic Minister, a Vestry Member, Senior and Junior Warden, a member of the Bishop Memorial Home Board, and a shepherd of the Jane K. Millns Music Trust. Her deep abiding faith guided her through challenging and joyous times throughout her life.
Kathy was deeply passionate about helping women in need and dedicated her time to the Coastal Women’s Shelter, serving on their board and as president of the board for two terms. She was a founding member of the Coastal Women’s Forum and served on the United Way Board.
In her free time, Kathy was an avid seamstress, a skill she taught herself as a teenager. She made countless dresses for her girls, suits for herself, and even bridesmaids’ and wedding dresses. She volunteered for the Salvation Army, sewing teddy bears and dolls for children in need. Kathy also enjoyed spending time gardening in her yard and crafting.
Kathy is survived by her daughters Sarah Smith (Matt Fawcett) and Jennifer Warner (Brett), her grandchildren Ethan and Libby, her brother Robert Millns (Dottie), nephews Dale Millns III, Chris Millns, Reid Millns, and Alex Ferguson. She was preceded in death by her daughter Kathryne “Katie” Smith, her brother David Millns, her sister Margaret “Peg” Ferguson, her brother Dale “Tucker” Millns, and her parents Dale and Jane Millns.
A memorial service will be held May 30, 2025, at 2 pm at Christ Episcopal Church, New Bern, with interment immediately following in the outdoor chapel.
