She attended public schools in Tampa, Florida and some college at a Jacksonville business school. Doris operated a Beer & Wine Tavern in Ft. Pierce for many years.
Doris Benjamin was a prior member of First Bethel Baptist Church in Fort Pierce. She later moved her membership to Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church, Ft. Pierce, with her husband, Ronald Benjamin. She was a devoted choir member and served the St. Lucie County community with the Unity Christian Choir. She was a poll worker with the St. Lucie County Supervisor of Elections office.
On Monday, October 22, 2018, the Lord called her home. She is preceded in death by her mother and father, Frank and Roney McNealy, as well as her son, Ronnie E. Adderly.
She leaves behind to cherish her memories, her loving husband, Ronald Benjamin of Ft. Pierce, FL; her daughters, Deloris Renee Benjamin of Ft. Pierce, FL, and Vienna Clarke of Nassau, Bahamas; and her son Merritt Martin, Sr. (Octavia) of Oviedo, FL; grandchildren, Cathressa Brown of Nassau, Bahamas, Jerquesia “Kiki” Martin of Ft. Pierce, FL, Merritt Martin, II of Orlando, FL, Italia D. Cartwright of Nassau, Bahamas, Christopher Martin of Oviedo, FL, Justin Martin of Orlando, FL; 6 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, a host of special cousins and loving godchildren.
Also to mourn her loss is her extended family, to include Edna Anderson, Rosalind (Edd) Brown, Sanford (Doris) Benjamin, Jacquelyn (Freddie) Buckholts, James (Loretta) Benjamin, Anne (Nathaniel) Hudson, Emory (Darris) Benjamin; nieces, Fontella Benjamin and LaShanda (Warren) Favors; Tonya Dixon, Dwayne Benjamin, Sanford A. (Elana) Benjamin, Roderick Benjamin, Vincent Benjamin, Craig Benjamin (Deceased), Chauncey Benjamin, Angeline (William) Rolle, and Michael Benjamin.
Visitation for Mrs. Benjamin will take place on Friday, October 26, 2018 between the hours of 5pm-6pm at Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church and a wake service will follow from 6pm-7pm. A funeral service will convene on Saturday, October 27, 2018 beginning at 1:00pm at Saint Paul A.M.E. Church in Fort Pierce, FL. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
