Pastor Preston Nix,76, was called to his eternal home on May 30, 2025.
Preston was the second child born to Mr. Lovelace Nix, Sr. and Mrs. Elizabeth Myers Nix on March 1, 1949, in Etowah County.
He was raised in Attalla, AL and graduated from Norris High School in the class of 1968. After graduation he was untied in Holy Matrimony to Mary Ella Green Nix in 1969. To this union, three sons were born: Marcus DeWayne Nix, Tyrone Nix and Derrick Nix.
Later he joined the United States Army. After serving for a short time, he was employed at the Steel Plant in Gadsden, AL for two years. He later went to work at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company for thirty-three and a half years before retiring. He also worked in the Local 12 Union Hall for four years as a representative.
He was very instrumental in serving his community. He pastored Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Oneonta, AL for thirty-one years. He served on the Attalla Board of Education for twenty-nine and a half years. He started the Youth Enrichment Program in Attalla. He also created the Nix Foundation for Scholarships. He was a carpenter, plumber and electrician serving his community; and also was a mechanic and served on the Voters League. Of all those things, most importantly, he served God by using his many talents that God blessed him with.
He confessed Christ at an early age under the leadership of Pastor F.L. Huff at Friendship Baptist Church, Attalla where he served as a deacon.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. Lovelace Nix, Sr.; two brothers Lovelace Nix, Jr. and Robert Nix; sister in-law Jannie Lee Childs Nix.
He leaves to cherish his memories his loving and caring wife of fifty-six years, Mary Nix; his sons Sgt. Marcus DeWayne Nix of Attalla, AL., Tyrone (Toya) Nix of Stephenville, TX., and Derrick (Allison) Nix of Auburn, AL.; five grandchildren Tyvari Rashad Nix of Jackson, MS., Tiah Rakele Nix of Stephenville, TX, Ava Elizabeth Nix of Auburn, AL., Derrin Amos and Dray Eugene Nix of Auburn, AL.; brother Pastor Joseph (Sammie Kay) Nix of Gadsden, AL.; brother in law Amos William Green; a loving and caring cousin who was like a sister Geraldine Beason of Attalla, AL.; a long time friend Pastor William McKinney, several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 1pm on Wednesday, June 4, 2025 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Attalla.
