Doris J. Williams Moore

Our beloved Doris Jacqueline Williams Moore, 79, of Sunset Dr., Bassett, VA peacefully transitioned May 30, 2025, at her residence surrounded by her loving and devoted family. She was born on October 17, 1945, in Bassett, VA to the late Henry Edgar Williams and Clora Mae Welch Williams.

In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by a son, Darin Lamarc Moore; sister, Carol Jean Williams Martin and brother, Henry D. “Spanky” Williams, Jr.

Doris was a member of Oak Hill Cathedral of Glory, Bassett, VA. She was a 1964 graduate of George Washington Carver High School and a 1966 graduate of Cortez Peters Business School, Washington, DC. Doris began her career as an administrative assistant at Bassett Furniture Industries in the main office. She later worked for decades at what is now Eastman Performance Films, Bassett, VA. After retiring from Eastman, she worked in the office at Oak Hill Cathedral of Glory.

Doris was an avid reader, when she wasn’t lost in the pages of a good novel, you could find her watching soap operas, gardening, decorating, crossword puzzles, drinking mountain dew and shopping and being “in the road” with Dot Jones, Tammy Jones and Debra Ward, especially on the weekends. Doris enjoyed spending time with her daughter and grandchildren, who were her pride and joy. She loved Prince, the Dallas Cowboys and going to concerts.

Doris leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and resilience through her husband of 57 years, Herman Moore, Jr; daughter, Charlisa Moore Powell (Christopher); honorary son, David Carter (Massine); grandchildren, Laila and Landon Powell; one sister, Lois Jones (John); special nieces/daughters, Debra Ward, Tammy Jones, Toni Manns (Charles) and Brittney Millner Watkins; special nephews, Dareyn Williams and Phillip Williams; nephew, Henry D. Williams; nieces, Tamika W. Hanna, Yullanda Faye Dickey, Kimberly J. Green and Tiffany J. Lopez; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A visitation service will be held on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. with the funeral service at 12 noon at Oak Hill Cathedral of Glory, 690 Sunset Dr., Bassett, VA with Elder Creed Taylor, Eulogist. Interment will follow at Carver Memorial Gardens, 869 Parkway Dr., Martinsville, VA.

On Tuesday, June 3, 2025, the family will receive friends at Hairston Funeral Home, 301 Fayette St., Martinsville between the hours of 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. Other times, the family will receive friends at the residence, 1997 Sunset Dr., Bassett, VA.
