Lily Dolores Philpot Green

Passed 06/03/2025

Lily Dolores Philpot Green was born in Augusta, GA on March 28, 1941 to the parents of the late Verdere Philpot Sr. and the late Mozella Hatney Philpot. She attended elementary school in Augusta, GA and middle and high school in Evans, Ga. A school district consolidation took place after her 10th grade year and as a result, she graduated from Blanchard High School in Appling, GA in 1960.

She joined Hopewell Baptist Church in McCormick, SC at an early age and attended there until she went off to college. Lily attended Paine College in Augusta, Ga where she met and married Rev. Dr. Roosevelt Green Jr. From this union, they had four beautiful daughters: Susan, Cynthia, Michelle, and Sharon. When her husband became a pastor, she wore the hat of “First Lady.” She wore that hat well for she was one who served as a visible example of godly character. She displayed love and compassion and upheld her position with a prayerful spirit. She wore the title of “First Lady” at Beulah Grove Baptist Church, Second Shiloh Baptist Church, and Summerville Baptist Church all in Augusta, GA, Simonia Baptist Church and First Mount Mariah Baptist Church in Appling, GA, and Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Harrisburg, PA.

In 1981, Roosevelt and Lily divorced. She became a single parent. Regardless of this situation, she was known for her strong faith and determination. It was her personal goal to make sure all of her daughters attend college. With the help of the good Lord and working in the Richmond County School System, she accomplished that goal.

She was loved by all who made her acquaintance. Those who came in contact with her admired her strength, her energy, her determination, her fashion style (everything must match), and her creative ways of problem-solving your issue when you asked for her advice. You may have gotten a laugh from it, but it worked.

After relocating from Harrisburg, PA, she got reacquainted with Beulah Grove Baptist Church where she was once “First Lady” in the early 1970’s. She became active in several ministries and two of her favorites were the Memorial Ministry and the Senior Choir. She continued serving until her health began to decline. She departed this life and joined her Heavenly Father on June 3, 2025.

She was preceded in death by her parents Verdere Philpot Sr. and Mozella HatneyPhilpot and her brothers Irvin Philpot Sr. and Daniel Philpot.

She is survived by her four daughters, Susan Green Dawson, Cynthia Green Walden (George Sr.), Michelle Green Middleton, and Sharon Green Davis (Crandall) all from Augusta, GA; her grandchildren, Craig D. Green Jr. from Eunice, LA, Christopher Green from Savannah, GA, Donald Dawson Jr., Alonzo Middleton, and Amari Davis all from Augusta, GA; great grandchild AlonzoD. Middleton; her siblings, Betty J.
