Mrs. Hallie Gray Mathews was born on March 7, l931, to the late Mrs. Mae Bell Roquemore Gray and the late Mr. Homer N. Gray in Butler, Taylor County, Georgia. She was educated in the public school of Taylor County.
She met Mr. Otis “Doc” Mathews, Jr. and on January 4, l958, they were joined in Holy Matrimony. They were blessed with one son, Michael. Hallie was a well-known entrepreneur. She owned and operated her own cleaners, Ideal Dry Cleaners, for many years. She was a long-time and faithful member of the Welcome Grove Baptist Church. She served on the Mother’s Ministry and was the program planner for the church.
She loved going to church and hearing the preached Word of God. In addition to church, she loved working, sewing and her fish aquariums.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Helen Williams and Betty Alsobrooks; three brothers, Nelson Gray, Neal Gray and Homer Gray Jr. On Wednesday, May 21, 2025, the Lord looked down and saw his daughter in distress. He whispered her name, she answered, and her spirit returned to the father.
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Mr. Otis “Doc” Mathews, Jr. of Thomaston, GA; one son, Mr. Michael Mathews of Fort Mill, SC; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Rosa Mae Carter of Thomaston, GA and Mrs. Sherman Gray of Culloden, GA; two brothers-in-law, Mr. Jessie Mathews and Mr. James Mathews both of South Bend, IN; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
