Charles Edward Dunlap

Nashville - Age 76, passed on early morning October 15, 2018 in Nashville, Tenn. Charles "Chuck" Dunlap was born October 12, 1942 in Memphis, Tenn. As a student at Tennessee Agricultural and Industrial University (now Tennessee State University), Charles became heavily involved with the Student Non-violent Coordinating Committee (SNCC). He participated in the Freedom Rides of 1961 and was subsequently expelled from Tennessee A&I alongside other students for his participation. After, he continued his work as a field secretary for SNCC and organized voter registration activities in Missouri and Illinois in 1962, landing him in jail alongside other Civil Rights heroes like US Congressman John Lewis and Charles Neblett. Chuck spent the rest of his years in Nashville, Tenn. He had a passion for people and music. He has performed gospel music with others in the community. He leaves to mourn Steven and Sandra Aaron along with their children (Aria, Ajani, and Airis). He is also fondly remembered by the Nashville Civil Rights Veterans Association, and those who fought with him in the civil rights movement.
