Obituary For Theola Douglas Perry

Sister Theola Douglas Perry was born on June 12, 1924, in Washington County, Vernon, Florida, to Cleveland and Lillie Mae Douglas. Theola was the second daughter daughter God gave Cleveland and Lillie Mae Douglas.

Sister Perry completed her primary education in the public schools of Indian River County. After graduating from Gifford High School, she furthered her education at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University in Tallahassee, FL earning a Bachelor of Science Degree. Work toward her Master's Degree was done at Tuskegee Institute in Tuskegee, Alabama. Sister Perry taught in the public schools of Indian River County for 35 years.

In 1947, she married Henry Edgar Perry, who preceded her in death on December 9, 1992.

After being converted at an early age, Sis. Perry continued to grown in the wisdom and knowledge in favor with God. She joined New Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Gifford, Florida. She worked diligently and faithfully until her demise. She served in the following ministries: Trustee Board, Usher Board, Stewardess Board #1, New Bethel's Senior Musician, Women's Day Chairperson in 1995 and 2002, Women's Missionary Society, and a member of the senior choir prior to becoming the musician. She was also a member of the Old Glory Chapter #123 of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Kappa Kappa Sigma chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.

Left to cherish her memories are her cousin, Sharron Russ Fisher; true friends, Arthur Lee Felton and Gordon Bryant, Jr. and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and sorrowing friends who will miss her dearly.

Visitation for Sister Theola Perry will convene on Friday, November 16, 2018 at New Bethel AME Church between the hours of 5pm and 7pm in Gifford, FL. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, November 17, 2018 also at New Bethel AME Church in Gifford, FL beginning at 2:00pm. Burial will follow at Gifford Cemetery.

My heart is so full right now that I just found out that Grandma Theola has passed. I called on December 26,2018 and this is when I got my daughter and I got news about our grandmother. She don't have to suffer anymore,we Love You Grandma Theola.RIP!!!

I'm going to miss calling and talking to Mrs.Perry on the phone I always remember the (4)gospel songbooks, that she gave me in my teenager days, I'm in my 50s now.I still got them.Good night, Mrs. Theora Perry, I'll see you in the morningYoursTruly, Charles Eric Hughes, Verobeach,Fla.

I was saddened to hear of the death of Mrs. Perry. I was a coworker of hers at Gifford Elementary School and later at Vero Beach Elementary School. I count it a blessing to have known her. Robert Temple
