Obituary For Mother Josephine G. Ross Malone

Mother Josephine G. Ross-Malone was born in Edison, Georgia on April 19, 1935 to parents Jim and Ailene Bee General. She received her primary early education through the Calhoun County School System. After moving to Fort Pierce for a while, she attended Lincoln Park Academy for a few years. Subsequently, Josephine returned to Edison and graduated from high school.

At an early age she confessed her faith in Christ and joined the Turner Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Edison, Georgia. Upon moving back to Ft. Pierce she met Albert Lee Ross and united in matrimony. From this union was born Lisa Antoinette Ross and Eric Vincent Ross. In later years Mother Josephine Ross- Malone met and married Deacon J.D. Malone. In 1972 Mother Malone joined Friendship Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. H. W. White. There she served on the #1 Usher Board and sang in the choir. In 1991 Mother Josephine Ross-Malone joined New Testament Baptist Church under the leadership of Bishop Ronald E. Wright Sr. She was affectionately known as the “Song Bird” of New Testament as she became famous for singing “Let me Show You How To Move A Mountain” and “Who Will Carry the Story.” She sang in the choir and served faithfully on the usher board until she decided it was time to give it up. In 2014 Josephine Ross-Malone was name the Mother of the Church.

Her employment included J.C. Penney’s downtown Ft. Pierce, The Furniture Beauty Nook, and The Craft Center. Josephine gives the credit to Rev. Evans Carthon for teaching her the ropes of upholstery. She also received further training from Bernice Breach. She received the reputation for producing high quality work. Mother Josephine later joined with Sister Febbie Carthon to run the Craft Center on the corner of 18th Street and Avenue “D”. There she worked until these business partners and close friends retired together.

Mother Malone leaves to mourn one daughter, Lisa A. Ross, one son Eric V. Ross, Two sisters; Jimmie Lee Wilburn, Edison, Ga and Ilene General of Jacksonville, Florida; Special Cousin Marilyn Holmes. Special friends, Frances Bailey, Emma Jean Bolden, Annette Ware, and Sister Juanita Wright and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation for Mother Malone will take place on Saturday, November 17, 2018 between the hours of 3pm and 6pm at Stone Brothers Funeral Home in Fort Pierce, FL. A homegoing celebration will take place on Sunday, November 18, 2018 beginning at 2:00pm at Greater Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Fort Pierce, FL. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery.

I’m saddened to hear if mrs Josephine I had the pleasure of meeting her at lawnwood when she was a patient she was the sweetest most loving woman I’ve ever met . Mrs Josephine May you SIP my friend my prayers go out to her family and friends

Remembering my Aunt Josephine who was always encouraging and uplifting, positive she would just let you know how it was she was always with a smile on her face I remember my last visit with her in my home and how we enjoyed just being together. I love you Aunt Josephine God bless
