Wendell Smith Winfield Jr., 88, of Jacksonville, was born on July 8, 1936, in Haverhill, Massachusetts, to Wendell S. Winfield Sr. and Lucille Hue.
Wendell had a kind heart and was always looking out for others in need. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life, especially spending time with his grandchildren during their weekend visits. He loved cookouts, traveling, and shopping, and had a deep passion for karate, which he practiced regularly. Wendell also enjoyed watching women’s wrestling and westerns, playing chess, listening to classical music, and sitting in the sun.
He was well-liked everywhere he went and was often complimented on his white hair and good looks. Wendell truly lived life to the fullest.
Wendell honorably served in the United States Air Force for 17 years, retiring in 2008. Throughout his career, he utilized his many skills as a Computer Instructor at a community college, a Training Manager and Recruiter at Covansys, an IRS Computer Operator (GS), and as a Technical Specialist at the VA Information Technology Center.
Wendell will be remembered for his kindness, gentle spirit, and the joy he brought to those around him.
Wendell S. Winfield Jr. passed away peacefully at Baptist Medical Hospital in Jacksonville, FL.
He was the husband of Shirley Anne Tucker Winfield and son of Wendell and Lucille, and late brother of David Winfield. Wendell survived by his children: Ste. Michael, late Curtis, Chasten, Angela, Shelby, Naomi and Tracey; his caretaker/devoted niece Laura Winfield and a host of grands, nieces, and nephews.
Mr. Winfield burial will be 12:30p.m. Monday, July 7, 2025 in Jacksonville National Cemetery.
