Tammy Von Janell Hagy

January 24, 1958 – June 13,2025

Tammy Von Janell Hagy (McAteer), lovingly known as “Gypsy,” passed away peacefully surrounded by family and love. Born on January 24, 1958 to the late Pauline Elizabeth McAteer and Charles Richard McAteer, Tammy lived a life full of creativity, boldness, and deep transformation.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Phillip Hagy, her cherished son, Charles “Chuck” Leonard Johnson and two siblings Timothy Richard McAteer and William Joseph (Joe) McAteer.

Tammy is survived by her “another” mother, Thomasina McAteer, sisters; Pamela “Diana” Garon of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Virginia “Ginny” Ruth McAteer of Rock Hill, SC.

Her daughter, Jessica Tamara Tapp (Johnson), (spouse; Allen Tapp) of Rock Hill, SC with whom she resided with as well as her grandchildren who brought her much joy- Dana Hope Parent (Bridges)-(spouse; George Parent), Brandi Nicole Bridges, Jesse Allen Tapp, Joseph Hayden Tapp, Miley Alyssa Tapp, and Amber Lynn Johnson of Richmond, Virginia, daughter of her late son Chuck. She was also blessed with a great-grandson, Jaxon Ryder Parent.

Tammy worked at Celanese for over 20 years. She loved, gardening, nature, animals, found beauty in flowers, enjoyed fishing with her grandkids and expressing herself through creativity. She had a free spirit, a love for adventure, and lived life on her own terms.

In her later years, after being diagnosed with cancer, Tammy made the powerful decision to rededicate her life to Jesus Christ. Though she was homebound and unable to attend in person, she was able to participate by viewing live sermons and recently became a member of Faith Rising Community Church in York, SC, where she was welcomed with open arms.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 20, 2025 with family visitation from 5-6 pm and celebration of life service to directly follow afterwards at 6 pm under the care and guidance of Pastor Berry Chatas at Faith Rising Community Church of York, S.C.

Tammy’s story is one of transformation, resilience, and grace. She will be remembered by her family and those who knew her in all seasons of her life.
