Dorothy Mary Westbrook John

The funeral services for the late Mrs. Dorothy Mary Westbrook John, who departed this life on Sunday, June 15, 2025, will be held on Sunday, June 22, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. from the New Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Ashburn, Georgia. Reverend Lester Green will deliver the Eulogy. Burial will follow in the Westview Memorial Cemetery in Ashburn, Georgia. Mrs. Dorothy M. Westbrook John, affectionately known as “Ms. Dot”, was born on January 14, 1940 in Ashburn, Georgia to Mr. and Mrs. Roosevelt and Lois Shepherd Westbrook. She was their firstborn child.

Dot was educated at the infamous Eureka Elementary and High School in Ashburn, Georgia. She graduated with the Class of 1957.

On April 5, 1958, Dot married Mr. Sammie L. John, Jr., and to the union three children was born. Although she had only three biological children, Dot assisted in raising numerous other children throughout her employment at a local daycare, her own home daycare, and at Coastal Plain EOA Headstart. Dot also had an impact on many elderly adults in the community during the time she worked at the Turner County Nutrition Site.

At an early age, Dot gave her life to Christ and joined the New Mt. Zion Baptist Church and attended faithfully until her health began to fail.

On Sunday, June 15, 2025, our beloved Dot transitioned to Life Eternal from her earthly home. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and numerous family members.

Forever memories of Dot will be cherished by her children, Rhonda John, Yolanda John, Rontonio Marcus John; her cousin/son, Billy Ray Rowe; her only grandchild, Darius Johnson; her siblings, Alphonso (Faye) Westbrook, Remona Greene; her nephews, DeCarlo Greene (Lori Walker), Daniel John, Charles (Malin) Maynard; her nieces, Rotunda (Jeston) Vincent, Shelby Greene, Sonya (Walter) Scott, Angela (Hahmoud) Shabazz, Rosalind Russell, Angie (David) Watkins, Sharon Milton, Sandra Milton, Gwen Sibert-Milton, Cynthia Milton, Renee Williams; her hospice of TiftArea Care Team; and a multitude of sorrowing cousins, family members, church members, and friends.
