Ruthie Cunningham, 89, passed on Tuesday, June 17, 2025 in Columbus, GA.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. EST (1:00 P.M. CST) on Saturday, July 5, 2025 at Rocky Mount Baptist Church, 333 Rocky Mount Church Rd, Eufaula, AL 36027 with Rev. E.C. Davis, pastor, officiating. Burial to follow in the church cemetery. Visitation is Thursday, July 3, 2025 from 1:00 p.m. EST to 5:00 p.m. EST
Ruthie M. Cunningham was born January 17, 1936, to the late Louis M. Cunningham and Martha Henry. Ruthie departed this life on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at Piedmont Columbus Regional Midtown. Ruthie transitioned peacefully surrounded by family.
At an early age, Ruthie gave her life to Christ and joined the Rocky Mount Baptist Church in Eufaula, AL. Ruthie later relocated to Columbus, GA. and joined Franchise Missionary Baptist Church where she served on the Usher board for over 40 years. Ruthie loved her church family and cherished them deeply.
Ruthie retired from National Linen Service, where she was employed for over 40 years. After retiring, she was devoted to the children's ministry at Hilton Terrace Ministry. She also enjoyed spending time outdoors tending to her plants and keeping a well-groomed lawn.
Ruthie lived a life of kindness, compassion, and unwavering love for family and friends. She was the heart of her home and family. She was a nurturing presence, whose warmth and generosity touched all who knew her. Her greatest joy came from being surrounded by family and close friends. She create a home that was full of laughter, support, and love. A place where everyone felt welcomed.
Ruthie was a devoted mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, great, great, great grandmother,sister, aunt, and friend. Ruthie always placed the needs of other before her own. Her gentle spirit and giving nature were evident in everything she did whether by preparing a comforting meal, offering a listening ear, giving advice, old school medical remedies, cooking lessons over the phone or simply sharing her quite strength during difficult times. She gave of herself selflessly and loved unconditionally.
Ruthie was preceded in death by six brothers, Emanuel Thomas, Moses Jones, Jr., Benjamin Cunningham, Major Cunningham, Jimmie Cunningham and Elijah Cunningham, three daughters, Martha Cunningham Rogers, Faye B. Evans and Arnetta Cunningham.
Ruthie leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that will live on in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her.
Ruthie is survived by her children Velma Denson (Eufaula, AL.), Emanuel Cunningham (Orlando, FL.), JoAnne Gamble (Eufaula, AL), Essie L. (Sam) Davidson (Lawrenceville, GA.). Her siblings, Lena Wills (Washington, D.C), Louis Cunningham, Jr. (Gary, Indiana), Semarian Vaughn (Columbus, GA.), Joseph (Van) Cunningham (Rochester, NY.) and a host of grandchildrern, great- grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, great-great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins with a special cousin Willie Forte whom was more like a brother. A Goddaughter, Valerie Bickham and a special friend Lula Goodwin and a host of friends.
