Bucky Johnson

Mr. Bucky Johnson was born on August 12, 1949, in
Spartanburg, South Carolina, to the late Sarah Williams Johnson and Claude Johnson. A devoted man of faith, Bucky transitioned to be with the Lord on June 13, 2025, at his home in Charlotte, NC. His days were filled with prayer and dedication to God in his home Prayer Room. He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Walker Memorial Baptist Church in Spartanburg.

Bucky, a United States Army Veteran, brought joy and
laughter wherever he went. He loved sharing stories
about his family and the Army. He also enjoyed riding
his bicycle, and listening to old music.
He was lovingly raised for a time by and in the home of his late Aunt Geraldine Davis, whom he deeply cherished.
He grew up alongside a close-knit group of first cousins who shared a bond of love and mutual respect: John (his best friend), Irene, Mildred, Joyce, Tony, Sheila, Robin, and Mitch.
Bucky was a proud father to Christina and August
Johnson and was blessed with a large extended family of siblings who he met later in life: Claude (Wilhelmina), Elizabeth (Floyd), Eric (Theresa), Kenneth (Cleo), Rita, Michelle, Marilyn, Tom, Rashieka, and Shamiek.
His early education took place in Spartanburg, SC and Brooklyn, NY. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York City. Afterwards, Bucky dedicated much of his career to public service. He worked for many years at Rikers Island as a Captain with the New York Department of Corrections before relocating to Charlotte, where he continued his service with the North Carolina Department of Corrections until his retirement.

At the time of his passing, Bucky shared a special
companionship with Keyta Gaskins. Their bond brought him great joy. Bucky was a man who loved deeply and lived with joy. He will be remembered for his kind spirit, his devotion to family and faith, and the joy he brought to those around him. He leaves behind a host of loving family members and friends who will miss him deeply.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, June 24, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at The John Stinson Woodward Memorial Chapel, Spartanburg, SC. Burial will follow inthe MJ Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery, Anderson, SC.
