Mr. Leonard Smith, passed away Saturday, June 21, 2025 at Beacon Place.

A Memorial service will be held Monday, June 30, 2025 3pm Cassie Coote-Brown Memorial Chapel at Perry J. Brown Funeral Home 909 East Market Street Greensboro, North Carolina.

Leonard Smith was born on April 17, 1947, in Greensboro, North Carolina, to Mr. Albert Smith and Helen Colston, and passed away peacefully on June 21, 2025, at Beacon Place.

He graduated from James B. Dudley High School in 1965 and went on to work at Gilbarco, where he dedicated over 40 years of service.

Leonard and Doris were high school sweethearts. He was charismatic, boisterous, always on the move, and never met a stranger. He loved cars, working in the yard, planting flowers, and most of all talking. Conversation was truly a passion of his. He also loved collecting hats – caps, straw hats, cowboy hats – he had lots of hats.

Leonard was the proud father of six children: Elliott, Pamela, Derrick, Michael, Leonard Jr., and Lamar Smith. He was a loving husband to Doris Freeman. He is also survived by his siblings, Alberta Smith and Charles Smith (wife, Joyce); eight grandchildren: Jasmin Smith, Haley Ransom, Miciah, Brent, Elana, Dereon, Madison, and Mason; and two great-grandchildren, Sklare and Wynter. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.

He used to say, “You’re going to miss me when I’m gone.” And he was right. His absence is deeply felt, especially by his wife, family and friends.
