Funeral services for Mrs. Georgie Keller, 86, of Elloree, SC, will be held 3:00pm, Sunday, July 13, 2025, at Union AME Church, 390 Old River Road, Elloree, with interment to follow in the church cemetery.
For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. Henceforth, there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness which the Lord the righteous judge shall give me at that day.” II Timothy 4:6-8
Sister Georgie Mae Mood Keller the daughter of the late Eugene Mood, Sr., and the late Pearline Johnson Mood was born on June 17, 1935. Sister Georgie earned her wings on Friday, July 4, 2025 at her home in Elloree, South Carolina, after a short illness. She heard the Lord’s call and followed Him into her heavenly home for rest from this weary world. She was surrounded by the love and care of her family members. Sister Keller is now together again with her beloved Roger and Brenda.
Sister Keller was born in Elloree, Calhoun County, South Carolina. She was reared in Elloree, South Carolina and received her early education at the Union School, Elloree, South Carolina. She graduated in 1958 from St. John High School in Cameron, South Carolina. At a very young age she joined Union African Methodist Episcopal Church in Elloree, South Carolina. She was a faithful member until she moved to New York.
Sister “Georgia” as she was called at times, married Roger Lee Keller on October 25, 1958, a few months after their graduation from High School. They were classmates as well as high school sweethearts. In March of 1960 they relocated to Long Island, New York seeking better employment opportunties. To this union they became the proud and loving parents of two children: Bernard and Brenda Jean. Brenda preceded her in death.
Sister Georgie continued her education at the Amtac Business School in Jamica, New York. She was employed with the New York Telephone Company for twenty-eight (28) years until retirement. Prior to working at the telephone company she performed some domestic work.
While living in New York she was a member of Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Far Rockaway, New York. Sister Keller was involved in the Acolite Ministry, served on the Board of Stewards, Stewardness, Chairperson of the BAM, Women’s Day Celebration, Class Leader, and served on the Kitchen Committee. After her move back to South Carolina in July of 1999, she renewed her membership with Union A. M. E. Church. She became active as a Steward Board member, Class Leader, Family and Friends & Women’s Day Coordinator, President of the BAM Day Celebration, member of the Lay Organization, and advisor of the Junior Steward Board. The Senior Luncheon program at Union A. M. E. Church was a ministry that began with her and family members initiating it in 2008.
In the community, she was active with her civic duty by voting in every Local, Primary and Presidential elections. She was a faithful and loyal charter member of the Elloree Senior Citizens Club and held the position as treaurer for over 22 years. She was instrumental in planning many of the club’s events and activities. She will be sadly missed by the club members.
Sister Keller “loved” to bake. This was one of her favorite things to do as well as sewing and gardening. Her pound cake was a favorite desert at family gatherings, church repasts and Sunday dinners throughout the community. Her favorite scripture is the twenty-third Psalm. It is a good feeling to know she was a true child of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Hallelujah!
She was also preceded in death by her loving (husband Roger Lee Keller, January 25, 2025); brothers: Eugene “Buddy” Mood, Jr., Herbert “El” Mood, Lin Earl “Ruby” Mood, Charlie “Bubba” Martin, Jr., Dennis “Stucky” Martin, Sr. and Nathaniel “Peenee” Martin. Her maternal grandparents: Whitfield Johnson and Ada Pauling and paternal grand parents: Donald Mood and Minnie Brantley.
Sister Keller’s presence will be missed by many. Her creative ideas, meaningful input and loving ways will be irreplaceable. She was tagged with many loving names that described her calm demeanor.
May her life continue to be a blessing to all her family, friends and those who knew and loved her. She leaves to cherish her loving memories: one son: Bernard (Jackie) Keller of Poughkeepsie, New York; two grandchildren: Keianna (Brandon) Duckett of Charlotte, NC, Isaiah B. Keller of Orlando, Fl; three great-grandchildren: Danielle, Carter and Reign; one brother in-law Thomas Ulmer of Fayetteville, NC; Sisters: Willette Goodwin, Arlene Hampton, Ada Kendrick, Connie Hall all of Elloree, SC, and Minnie (Chuck) Gantt of Iberia La; Lula (David) DeBose of Santee, SC; sisters-in-law: Apostle Mary C. Mood, Sarah B. Martin, Betty W. Mood, Jessie G. Martin all of Elloree, SC, Hattie Martin of Columbia, SC, and Mary Mood of Winston Salem, NC; two god-children: Allison Preston of Charlotte, NC and Queeneshia Keitt of Elloree, SC. She has no living aunts or uncles, however, many first line cousins, a host of nieces and nephews, also a community of other loving family and friends who will miss her dearly.
Giving special thanks to Willette Goodwin, and Nicole Goodwin, who prepared meals and planned arrangements for the medical staff and caregivers to provide around-the-clock care and comfort for Sister Keller. Also, thanks to Martha Sumpter who also prepared and delivered nourishment. To God be the Glory for the Life of Sister Georgie Mae Mood Keller. May her Soul Rest in Heavenly Peace.
