Obituary For Dorothy Sprowl Willis

MRS. DOROTHY SPROWL WILLIS - Age 92, of Dalton, Georgia, entered into rest on Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at her residence. She was born on June 15, 1926 to the late Mr. Harry Leon Sprowl, Sr. and Mrs. Mary Ruth Austin Sprowl. She was a member of Liberty Missionary Baptist Church, a graduate of Emery Street High School, and preceding her in death were her three brothers, Charles W. Sprowl, Harry L. Sprowl, Jr., and Raleigh Sprowl, granddaughter, Willisa Harriet Marsh, and stepmother, Olean Sprowl.

In 1949, she was co-founder and licensed Funeral Director of Willis Funeral Home with her husband, the late Mr. William J. Willis, Sr. As a Registered Nurse, her years of employment were at Murray County Hospital, Hamilton Medical Center, and at the medical practice of Dr. Neil Boggess and Dr. Albert Boozer. She was a volunteer for the American Red Cross and was a recipient of the Eva McCamy Award.

Survivors are her three children, William J. (Joyce) Willis, Jr., Minnie R. (Hubert) Marsh, Sr., and Mary L. (Dony) Suttles, all of Dalton, Georgia; six grandchildren, H. Andrew (Leverne) Marsh, Jr. of West Orange, New Jersey, Joycelyn (Clint) Richards of Cartersville, Georgia, Daryll Tinson of Atlanta, Dr. Juanita (Craig) Hicks of Villa Rica, Georgia, Derrick Tinson, and Daniel Tinson of Dalton; five great grandchildren, William Hicks, Andrea Marsh, Bella Hicks, Carson Richards, and Carmyn Richards; sisters, Vivian Pender of Canton, Ohio, Willie “Tiny” Reynolds of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Leone Nelson of Dalton; brother, Thomas “Bud” Sprowl of Edmond, Oklahoma; devoted sister-in-law, Geraldine “Geri” Pero; other sisters-in-law, Maggie Sprowl, Johnnie Sprowl of Dalton, Estelle Willis of Detroit, Michigan; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, Willis Funeral Home Staff, professional associates, and friends. A special appreciation is expressed to the dedicated caregivers and to Amedysis Hospice and Home Health.

The Service to Celebrate the Life of Mrs. Dorothy Sprowl Willis will be held Sunday, December 16, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. in the Willis Funeral Home Chapel, 2011 Martin L. King, Jr. Blvd. Dalton, Georgia, with Pastor Charles D. Catchings as Eulogist, Elder Windell Smith as Presider, and other ministers officiating. Her remains will lie in state at the funeral home Saturday after 11:00 A.M. Interment, West Hill Cemetery. Please share your thoughts and memories at www.willisfuneralhomedalton.com.
