Joseph "Yancey" "Joe" Edison

02/08/1973 - 07/08/2025

Joseph Edison, affectionately known as “Yancey” and “Joe,” was born in Talladega County, Alabama on February 8, 1973. Yancey’s vibrant spirit, infectious smile, and skilled hands left an unforgettable mark on everyone blessed to know him.

Yancey had a remarkable talent for assembling and building—whether it was furniture or gadgets, he approached each task with joy and precision. He carried the warmth of family and the strength of generations past. He had a gifted hand and a sharp eye and also a knack for drawing. His creations were more than objects; they were reflections of his love and patience.

His hands were rarely still, and his skills were matched by his generous spirit. Yancey loved his family and had a special relationship with each member. He loved deeply and was loved deeply in return.

Yancey attended Talladega County Public Schools for a time, then moved to California, and then on to Millington, TN where he graduated in 1992 from Millington Central High School.

Yancey was passionate about sports, especially basketball, which he played and followed throughout his life. He was a devoted fan of the Crimson Tide of Alabama and the North Carolina Tar Heels, cheering on his teams with unshakable loyalty and enthusiasm. He always brought energy, knowledge, and heart.

Yancey spent meaningful years in Alabama, California, and Tennessee, leaving lasting impressions and gaining extended family and friends wherever he went. His personality and laughter lit up rooms and found permanent homes in the hearts of many.

Yancey was preceded in death by his beloved son, Josiah Edison; grandson, La’Monte’ Edison; his grandparents, Lewis and Lessie Edison who raised him as a son; and his cherished aunts, Carolyn Garrett and Hattie Barclay; uncles, Lewis Edison Jr. and Joe Johnson.

Yancey leaves behind a legacy of love, craftsmanship, and unbreakable bonds—a spirit that will continue to inspire and uplift all who knew him.
