It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mrs. Willie Mae Leonard.


Willie Mae Leonard was born October 29th, 1936, to the late Mr. Eddie Leonard and Mrs. Mary Leonard-Griffin, who both preceded her in death. Mae, as she was affectionately called by everyone, was educated in the Leon County School System from 1st to 12th grade.

She received the Lord as her personal Savior at an early age under the parsonage of Reverend R.W of Mt. Pisgah A.M.E. Mae continued to further her education by attending Florida A&M College. While at FAMC she earned her license of Cosmetology. Mae worked as a beautician until she migrated to New York City. She worked at First National City Bank until 1969 when she took and passed the test with a high percentage at the New York City Department of Transportation where she held many positions. Such as Street Light Survey Data Clerical duties until 1980 when she passed the Supervisor exam for NYPD, until retirement in 1996. She was a fun loving person, but also a no nonsense and serious person whenever she was asked to do a job. She believed in working first and playing later. Mae was loved by many. Mae visited many churches.

She became a member of Community Baptist Church of Jamaica Queens New York. She continued to look for a better church home, until one bright sunny Sunday morning where she was invited to the great and friendly Christ Fellowship Baptist Church where she became a member in the early 1990s. Mae joined the Senior Usher Board and worked very well with the members. Mae joined the Order of the Eastern Stars in November of 1985. She worked hard to gain the respect of the members. She was elected as Worthy Matron of Ruth Chapter. She later became the Illustrious Commandress of D.O.I of Sheba Court. She also held various positions in the other higher houses of the Eastern Stars. She earned many plaques and certificates of outstanding duties as a Secretary and Treasury. In 1995 she became the AGM of Zion Grand Charter. In November of 2007 she became the Most Ancient Matron of H.O.J Fannie Lue Hamer Court.

Mae was preceded in death by her parents Mr. And Mrs. Eddie Leonard. As well as three brothers, Isaiah Patterson, James Reshard William, William Griffin. A special cousin, Minister Alice Mitchell; a God daughter, Gloria Washington; a Godson, Rodney Rabsatt.

She leaves behind a granddaughter, Tyishima Fuller; grandsons, Minister Camaron M. Houston and Master Corey Houston; special niece, Alice William; God Daughter, Deja Brown; Godson, Immanuel Boone; special friends, Lorena “Poochie” Deboue and Mary Ray. And a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, family, loved ones and friends.

Funeral Service will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, July 12, 2025 at Mt. Pisgah A.M.E. Church , 2009 Tram Road, Tallahassee, Fl. with burial at Church Cemetery.
