Patricia Murray

Passed 06/19/2025

Patricia Kay Taylor Murray, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, slipped away from this earth and into the presence of her Lord and Savior on June 19, 2025, surrounded by her family.

On August 24,1937, Patricia Kay Taylor Murray was born to Floyd and Hazel Matthews Taylor in Erwin, North Carolina. In 1942, at the age of five, her family moved to Durham. Pat attended Durham city schools. She retired from NIEHS in the Research Triangle Park after 33 years. There she met many of her lifelong friends.

Early on, Pat dedicated her life to raising her beloved daughter, Robin. They were inseparable, and until Pat’s last day here on Earth, they referred to one another as each other's best friend. Around the age of 40, Pat met the love of her life, OD Murray. They married shortly after and were married for 42 years before his passing in 2022. During those years Pat found joy in traveling with O.D., family, and friends. Her greatest joy came when she became a grandmother and then years later a great-grandmother. She poured unconditional love, her faith in God, and a lifetime of wisdom into her family and friends. We are comforted in the legacy she leaves behind — a legacy of true faith, hospitality, and devotion to those she loved and cared for.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Hazel Matthews Taylor, her brother Henry Taylor, and husband O.D. Murray, Jr. She is survived by her daughter Robin James Hollander and husband Steve, granddaughter Crystal Hollander Rose and husband Justin, great-granddaughters Lilah and Holland Rose, her brother Larry Taylor and wife Patricia, and other extended family and friends.

The funeral will be held at 1:30 pm on July 21, 2025 at Providence Church, 6339 Glenwood Ave, Raleigh, NC 27612. There will be a visitation after the service.

Pat gave her time and treasure to many charities. One that became especially close to her heart this past year was Baptist Children's Home of NC. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to them in her honor: PO Box 338, Thomasville NC 27361.
