Derrick Louis Patterson, 70, of Atlanta, GA, passed away on July 15, 2025, surrounded by loved ones.
Born on February 10, 1955, the youngest child of the late John H. and Dora K. Patterson. He was known for his kindness and generosity to others, work ethic, witty sense of humor, and love for cars and sports — especially football, with a Love/Hate relationship with the Falcons. Derrick is survived by his lifelong sweetheart, Sibyl Patterson; daughter, Dorian Patterson; step-daughter, Schjuan Clark; special sons, Travius and Trivius Caldwell; brothers, Dr. John H. Henry Jr (Cindy), William K. Patterson (Jacquelyn), Joseph E. Patterson (Wanda); and sister, Rubinell P. Saxon; along with a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and friends who love him dearly. He was preceded in death by his father, John H. Patterson; his mother, Dora K. Patterson; and his brother, Michael A. Patterson. Derrick graduated from Douglass High School in 1972 and attended Howard University. Derrick spent several years as an entrepreneur, working in real estate, as a caregiver, and as an advocate for mental health and self-improvement — all where he was respected and admired.
A Janazah Prayer Service will be held on Friday, July 18, 2025, at 3:30 pm at the Atlanta Masjid of Al-Islam at 560 Fayetteville Road SE, Atlanta, GA 30316. With burial to follow at Salaam Memorial Cemetery at 3095 Jonesboro Road, Atlanta, GA 30354.
Derrick will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
