Funeral services for Mr. Johnny Langley, 64, of Raleigh, NC, will be held 11:00am, Saturday, July 26, 2025, at Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church, 6882 Choppee Road, Georgetown, with military honors.
Mr. Langley passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at Duke University Medical Center, Raleigh.
John Langley (given name Johnny), age 64, departed this life on July 15 at Duke University Hospital, Durham NC, after a valiant fight, he transitioned peacefully of natural causes surrounded by family and friends.
The son of the late James Langley and Annie King Langley was born on April 17,1961, in Georgetown County, SC. He lost his parents at an early age but was raised in a loving family by his older sister (Earnestine Sumpter) in the Carver’s Bay community.
John graduated from Pleasant Hill High School in 1979. He continued his education at Baptist College before graduating from the University of South Carolina’s Conway campus. He also earned a masters degree from Webster University. Following college, he served honorably in the U.S Army obtaining the rank of Captain before embarking on a career in Sales and Marketing with the Good Year Tire and Rubber Company. He later owned and operated an Allstate Insurance Agency in Bethlehem, PA. His work took him to central New Jersey/Eastern Pennsylvania where he and his family resided for 30 years before retiring to Raleigh, NC in 2021. A talented builder, he also spent many hours tirelessly pursing his dream of developing a real estate portfolio.
Baptized as a youth at Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church in Georgetown, he was a longtime member of Greater Shiloh Church in Easton PA, before relocating to NC.
John was a loving husband, devoted father, brother, uncle, cousin, neighbor, and good friend who always greeted everyone with a big smile and was quick to lend a helping hand or offer a word of encouragement. A lifelong sports fan, his story would not be complete without mentioning his longtime favorite Pittsburg Steelers and LA Lakers.
He was preceded in death by three brothers: James, Clinton and Harvey Langley and two sisters Blondell Artis and Rosalee Singleton.
Those who remain to cherish his memory include: his beloved wife of thirty-six years, Mary (Hall) Langley of Raleigh, NC, one daughter Marisa Danielle Langley of Brooklyn, NY, and one son John Christopher (JC) Langley of Washington, DC.; five sisters Katie Price of Bronx, NY, Odessa Leggette of Andrews, SC, Earnestine Sumpter of Hemingway, SC, Vera Langley of Brooklyn, NY; two brothers Floyd Langley of New Haven, CT and Furman Langley of Georgetown, SC, and a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and close friends.
Special recognition to his brother-in-law Wallie Sumpter (who helped with his upbringing), special cousin Tim Watson and family friend Willie Singleton.
His strength, perseverance and courage will forever linger in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Public viewing will be held Friday, July 25, 2025, from 4-6pm, at Henryhand Funeral Home- Andrews Chapel, 118 Conifer Street, Andrews, SC.
