Mr. Raymond Lorenzo Holmes, age 92, a resident of Durham, North Carolina transitioned on July 23, 2025, at Durham VA Medical Center. He was born in Charleston, South Carolina and attended Catholic Schools.
He was a master brick and block mason working in Charleston, SC, and Washington DC-Crystal City. He also worked in New York City, walking steel beams fifty stories high. He also built numerous buildings on North Carolina Central University's campus, Duke's Campus, Research Triangle Park, and other structures too numerous to name. Mr. Holmes also worked for a brief period of time at Liggett and Myers Cigarette Factory.
Mr. Holmes served our country in the United States Army (Korean War). He was a faithful member of Covenant Presbyterian Church for approximately thirty years. He later became a member of Mt. Level Missionary Baptist Church for twenty years.
Mr. Holmes was preceded in death by his loving wife of forty-nine years, Mrs. Wilma L. Holmes.
Mr. Holmes leaves to cherish his memories: his devoted children; Stanley (Claudette), Valita (Ray), Juan, and Ramon. Grandchildren; Seirra, Vivian, and Brandon. His sister; Mrs. Delores Diggs, nieces, nephews, and a host of relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, September 13, 2025 at Mt. Level Missionary Baptist Church located at 316 Hebron Road, Durham, NC 27704. Visitation from 11:00 am until 12:00 Noon. Service begins at 12:00 Noon.
