Mrs. DonEtta Young passed away on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at the Westwood Health and Rehabilitation Center in Archdale, NC. She was born on April 5, 1949, to the late Leroy Mitchell and Minie Freeman.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Najeem Jordan.
DonEtta was a dedicated dietitian at the Presbyterian Nursing Home, where she took pride in ensuring that the residents received nutritious meals. She found joy in various activities, including sewing and playing cards. In the quiet moments, she would immerse herself in her Bible, drawing deep comfort and inspiration from its teaching.
One of her greatest joys was spending time with her grandson Justin; they would laugh together as he sang lively songs, and they would dance around the room, filling it with their joyous energy and bringing a radiant smile to her face. She loved cutting up juicy watermelon and sharing it with her grandkids, making memories that would stick with them forever. Everyone in the family knew her for her amazing crispy fried chicken, and people were always coming back for more. She will be missed, and her spirit will continue to inspire all who knew her.
She leaves to cherish her memories: her son, Lonnie Freeman of Austin, Texas; and her daughter, Fatimah Little (Anthony). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jaqurius, Darius, Evan, Justin, and Shaynia Bell; her great-grandchildren, Kymirrian, Genuine, Javeah, Tarema, Jaray, Jaqavious, Evan Jr., Shynetta, Malaya, Jamari, Jordyn, A’Jayveon, and Nyomi; her sister, Linda Luster (Jim); and a host of other relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, August 9, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Phillips Funeral Service Chapel. The family will receive friends at the chapel from 10:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
