Obituary For David Waters, Sr.

David J. Waters, Sr., 94, of N. 14th St., Harrisburg, transitioned into eternal life on Sunday, December 16, 2018 in the peace and love of his home. He was born in Harrisburg, son of the late Robert A. and Agnes (Banks) Waters, a 1943 graduate of the former William Penn High School, a U. S. Army Veteran of W. W. II, receiving several awards and three Bronze Stars for his distinguished service, retired from the former Mechanicsburg Naval Supply Depot with 40 years of service, a lifetime member of Trinty Church of God, where he served on the Choir, as a Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent. In his leisure, Mr. Waters was an avid reader and shared the love of books with students as a volunteer Teacher's Aide at the former Lincoln Elementary School. As a young man, he was a professional boxer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his 13 siblings and leaves to celebrate his life, his beloved wife of 75 years, Mary E. Newkirk-Waters; his daughters, Carol W. Jones of Camden, N. J.; Sharon L. Waters of South Orange, N. J.; Deborah L. Waters and Yolanda L. Waters; his sons, David J. Waters, all of Harrisburg and Melvin E. Waters, Sr. of Oxon Hill, MD; his 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grands, 10 great-great grands and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mr. Waters' life will be celebrated on Saturday, December 22 at 11:00 a.m. in the Sanctuary of his Church, 244 Harris St., with viewing 9:00 until 11:00 a.m. and burial on Monday, December 24 at 12:30 p.m.in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
