James William Skipwith (Belcher) Sr., affectionately known as "Bubba", was born August 4,1945 to William Aaron Carter (deceased) and Minister Marilyn Marie Skipwith Belcher Booth (deceased) in Skipwith, Virginia, James was called home to be with the Lord, July 29, 2025, at Beacon Place, Greensboro, NC, where he was being medically comforted.
James moved to Durham, NC with his family at an early age. where he started his trucking career, becoming the only African American to drive for 7UP bottle company at the age of 16. Around the time he married his first wife Barbara Jean Watson and the two started a family. After some time, James relocated to New York in the late 70s.
While there, he continued his love for trucking. In later years, James met Neeta Diane Holland and the two were married in 1988.
James worked as a dedicated truck driver for over 50 years, eventually retiring from MC Packaging. He enjoyed traveling, collecting unique items, and becoming a proud member of the Freemasons in the carly 1990s. After retirement, James and Neeta moved to Greensboro, NC in 2012 to be closer to family.
He was preceded in death by his former spouse, Barbara Jean Watson; Children, Doris Belcher, Antonio Belcher; Siblings, Betty Lou Skipwith, Marilyn Elizabeth Belcher and Charles T Belcher; Step-fathers, Isaiah Belcher Sr, and Minister Winford Booth.
James is survived by daughter, Shavonndra Skipwith of Greensboro NC, Warren Hunter, Betty Watson, Tammy Watson. James Belcher Jr- all of Durham NC. Anthony Sanders (Laura) of Pittsboro NC, Latashia Skipwith of Nashville, TN, James Belcher III (Danisha) of NY, Shakeyma Peoples (Paul) of VA. Brothers- John A Belcher, Robert A Belcher (Anissa), Isaiah Belcher Jr (Diane). Sisters- Lillie Anne Belcher Smith, Glendora Key-all of Durham NC. He has 42 Grandchildren, 52 Great-Grandchildren,13 Great Great-Grandchildren, As well as a host of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, Family and Friends.
We will truly miss him and keep his memory alive in our hearts.
Funeral service will be held Friday, August 8, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. in the Cassie Coote-Brown Memorial Chapel at Perry J. Brown Funeral Home Chapel located at 909 East Market Street in Greensboro, North Carolina 27401. Visitation will be held prior at 1:00 p.m.
Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park, located at 3600 N. Ohenry Boulevard, Greensboro, NC 27405.
