Obituary For Deacon Jeff Lewis Thomas

Deacon Jeff Lewis Thomas was born February 20, 1936 in Ambrose, Georgia to the late LadyBird Thomas and Leroy Gibson. He attended public school in the surrounding Coffee County area and obtained some college in the state of Florida. He later served in the United States Airforce from 1955 to 1964. On June 9, 1964, he married the love of his life Eliza Lillie Ashley. During this union, he adopted one son and was later blessed with the birth of another. He was employed as a letter carrier with the United States Postal Services for some 30 years in Fort Pierce, Florida. He Joined and served as a member, Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, Chairman of the Deacon Board, Youth Mission and Bible Studies, for some 35 years under the leadership of the late Reverend King, Rev. Bass, and current pastor, Reverend Willian R. Jones, Sr. He was also a member and officer under Progressive M & E State Convention of Florida, Inc. as a Recording Secretary. He was President of Kissimmee Valley Baptist Association Brotherhood Ministry, President of the Ministers and Deacons Congress Brotherhood Ministry, and an officer and member of the Citywide Prayer Band of Fort Pierce, Florida. His Organizational activities included a former Club/Boys Scout Leader, Shop Stewart, Chaplin, Secretary, Local and District President of the Postal/Workers Union of the National Letter Carriers Association. He was also an owner and operator of Thomas and Sons Funeral Home, located in Fort Pierce, Florida. He was and is a true servant of God. He loved gardening and growing greens, peas, string beans, corn, field peas, and watermelon, giving back to his church members, neighbors, and friends. He also worked many years with the United States Postal Service on their annual food drive. He enjoyed barbequing and cooking for his family, church, and others. His Passion was helping others through servitude and especially young people. He was that “Monkey Wrench”, that would fit everyone where he or she was needed. He had a smart sense of humor and loved encouraging, praying, and doing what he could do for mankind. He was and still is a great husband, father, grandfather, great-grand father, uncle, nephew, cousin, friend, and neighbor, that will be deeply missed, but not forgotten On Friday December 21, 2018, Deacon Jeff Lewis Thomas completed his life’s journey at the VA Hospice Center of West Palm Beach, Florida.

Those left to cherish his precious memories and hold them close to their hearts includes a loving and devoted wife, Eliza L. Thomas of Ft Pierce, FL.; two loving sons, Michael (Katheria) Thomas of Ft Pierce, FL., and Timothy Thomas Deerfield Beach, FL.; five grandchildren; three great grands; one brother, Darrell (Brenda) Reynolds of McDougal, GA; two sisters, Betty (Albert) Reese of Douglas, GA and Saundra (Eddie) Simmons of Huntersville, NC; two sister-in-laws, Lillian Ashley of West Palm Beach, FL and Meriam Gibson of Memphis, TN; adopted children, Gary and Lillian Athill & Family of Ft Pierce, FL; and a host of nieces, nephews’, cousins, and other relatives and friends.

Public visitation for Deacon Thomas will take place on Friday, December 28, 2018 from 3:00pm-5:00pm. A wake service will follow from 5:00pm-7:00pm. Homegoing Celebration will take place on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at 11:00am. All viewing and services will take place at St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Fort Pierce, FL. Burial will follow funeral services at Riverview Memorial Park in Fort Pierce, FL.
