Ira “Tommy” Fleming was born August 9, 1939 to his late mother and father, Frederick “Fred” Douglas Fleming, and Nellie Fleming Satterwhite. He was preceded in death by his son Lynwood Bernard Love acquired “Little Brother” McCoy Chambers, as well as acquired Siblings Amanda Daniel, David, Robert Satterwhite, and great grandson Aiden Frye.
Tommy was a graduate of G.C. Hawley High School in Creedmoor, North Carolina. Class of 1957 where he was trumpet player in the marching band. He was previously employed with NCCU food services and retired from maintenance services at Penrith Apartments in Durham, North Carolina.
He is survived by his sister Lottie Fleming Hall; daughters Charlotte L. Fleming, Lisa Fleming Morris; son Fredrick B. Fleming. Grandchildren; Sean Frye, Antonio Frye, Latasha Lunsford (DeMario), Tiffany Fleming, Aaron Fleming, Brandon Ray (Tamala), and Sabirah Fleming; daughter in-law Anja Love and former daughter in-law Staesy Wilson (Bryant); bonus sister-in-law Jane T. Smith (Lynwood); sisters in-law Bernadette Winston (Robert), Yvonne Royster (Fred), Sharon Strudwick; acquired siblings Pauline Wilkerson, Mary Lou Waller, Bobby Satterwhite (Theresa), Henry Lee Satterwhite (Blondie). He is also survived by the mother of his deceased son and close friend Yvonne Johnson whom his children fondly called “step momma” and a host of acquired and bonus nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday, August 22, 2025, 12:00 Noon at American Cremation & Funeral Service. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior.
