In the early morning hours of August 3, 2025, a great man----Deacon Robert James Barber----peacefully shed his earthly burdens and transitioned to eternal rest. As a husband, Robert was dedicated to loving and providing. As a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, he was known for his generosity and unwavering support. As a friend and relative, Robert was admired for his quick wit and uplifting spirit. He found joy in watching wrestling and football, fishing, and maintaining his yard with pride and care.

Robert never met a stranger, and he never made an enemy. His presence was comforting, his love was steadfast, and his loyalty was unmatched.

Robert James “Hott Rodd” Barber was born on November 1, 1942, in Barnesville, Georgia, to the late James “Buddy” Barber and Eva Holmes Barber. He was preceded in death by his brothers: John Caslin, Walter B. Barber, Ernest Barber, Amos Barber, and Jesse Barber.

Education & Work Ethic- Robert was a proud member of the Class of 1962 at Booker High School. He began his career at Continental Tire (Aldora Division), where he remained a dedicated employee for 42 years until his well-earned retirement. His loyalty and strong work ethic made him a respected colleague and a role model to many. After retiring, Robert served as a carrier for United Bank of Barnesville and its surrounding branches.

Service to His Community- Deacon Robert James Barber lived a life of purpose and generosity, dedicating himself to the betterment of others. Deeply rooted in his hometown of Barnesville, Georgia, he became a trusted leader and encourager within the community. Through mentorship, acts of kindness, and a heart that welcomed all, Deacon Barber impacted lives of all ages. Whether offering a warm handshake, heartfelt advice, or sharing wisdom on a porch swing, his servant's heart uplifted everyone around him. His legacy of love and compassion remains etched in the soul of the community he so dearly loved.

Service to His Family- Deacon Barber was the rock and foundation of a large and loving family. He leaves behind his devoted wife of 59 years, Olivia Barber; they were wed in holy matrimony on April 19, 1966. His legacy lives on through the generations. He is survived by his daughters, Rosilan Barber and Rhonda Barber, both of Barnesville, Georgia, his granddaughter, Zy'Koria K. Cahee (Ayron Brooks); and his great-granddaughter, Scottlynd River Brooks, who also reside in Barnesville. His adopted grandson, Caspice Walker, and his wife, Jaquila, also held a special place in his heart. He is also survived by three sisters: Bernice Sullivan and Mary Brown of Barnesville, and Nellie Faye Barrett of El Paso, Texas. His extended family includes sisters-in-law Maudelle Bealer (Gus), Katherine Whatley of Atlanta, and Portia Dixson of Griffin, Mildred Barber of Barnesville, Freddie Mae Ridgeway of Griffin, along with brother-in-law Winfred Dixson of Barnesville. Deacon Barber shared close bonds with devoted friends, including Mr. John L. White, Mr. Charlie Harp, and Mr. Freddie Simmons. Affectionately known as “Big Daddy," he was a father figure and spiritual mentor to Deaundez Williams, Quiones Sanders, Chelsea Moore, Michael Jenkins, Thaddeus Sands, Amiya Hinton, Jefferia Raines, and Ramelo Yarbrough. Deacon Barber's love, wisdom, and strength were ever-present. Whether sitting at the dinner table, attending family events, or simply being a listening ear, his presence brought peace. His family was his pride and joy, and he loved them wholeheartedly.

Service to His Church- A devoted servant of the Lord, Deacon Robert James Barber was a lifelong member of Greater Spring Hill Missionary Baptist Church. In 1998, he was ordained as a deacon and fulfilled his responsibilities with humility, dedication, and faith.

he was not only a deacon but a spiritual guide, counselor, and prayer warrior to many. Deacon Barber was deeply involved in supporting the ministry, encouraging his church family, and setting an example of what it means to walk by faith. His spiritual leadership and faithful service will forever live on in the hearts of the congregation and all who were blessed by his presence.

Final Thoughts- Deacon Robert James Barber's life was a living testimony of faith, devotion, and selfless----to God, his family, and his community. He walked humbly on this earth yet left behind footprints that generations will follow. Though he now rests in eternal peace, the echoes of his voice, his infectious laugh, and the warmth of his love will continue to shine through the lives he touched.
