Izola C. Day, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and dedicated educator, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2025, at the age of 79. Born May 30, 1946, in Salem, Alabama, Izola was the beloved daughter of the late Lewis &Nonni Collier. A lifelong learner and educator, she graduated from Wacoochee High School before earning her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Daniel Payne College. She went on to receive her Master’s Degree in Education from Georgia State University, demonstrating a lifelong commitment to knowledge and growth.
Izola spent more than 33 years teaching in the Russell County School District, and after a brief retirement, she continued to share her passion by teaching an additional 11 years in the Phenix City School District. Her dedication to education extended beyond the classroom—she regularly volunteered in local elementary schools, helping young children strengthen their reading and writing skills.
A woman of grace, compassion, and strong faith, Izola was an active member of Uchee Hill Missionary Baptist Church, where she served faithfully in the church choir, as a Sunday school teacher, and as a volunteer in church outreach programs. She was also a proud and devoted member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
Izola found joy in simple pleasures—reading books, playing board games, and being of service to others. Her legacy is one of love, learning, and quiet strength.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Nonni Collier; her daughter, Lakisha Day; her eldest brother, Lewis Collier, Jr. & his wife, Mary; her youngest brother, Timothy Collier; her brother-in-law, L.C. Brundidge; and her sister-in-law, Hattie Day Carter.
Izola’s legacy of love and commitment lives on in her loving husband, Arthur L. Day Jr.; her sons, Thalmus Day (Narcissus) and Richard Britten (Sounida); her adored grandchildren, Bria Lewis, Victoria Britten, Elizabeth Britten, Alexandria Britten, and twin grandsons, Carter and Collin Day. She also held the special role of Godmother to Tamika Brady-Hicks, Trezdon McDougald, and Kristyn Denson; her sisters, Tyre May Toliver (James, Sr.) and Gladys Brundidge; her brother, Darius Collier (Joann); sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
She will be remembered fondly by a host of nieces, nephews, former students, church family, and friends.
