Jesse Harris

Jesse Harris was born on March 19, 1947, in Spartanburg, South Carolina, and peacefully departed this earth on August 26, 2025. He was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose love for his family was evident in all that he did.

Jesse had a passion for photography, capturing life’s most precious moments for his family, friends, and church family. His camera was never far from his side, and through his lens, he preserved countless memories that continue to bring comfort and joy.

He was also blessed with a remarkable green thumb. Known for his love of plants, Jesse could nurture any flower or tree to flourish. His flowers were a reflection of his patience, care, and love for creation.

Jesse was a faithful member of New Day Baptist Church, where he joyfully served in many capacities. Over the years, he was active in the JLH Choir, Men’s Choir, and Usher Ministry. He attended Sunday School faithfully, participated in Prayer Meetings and Bible Study, and visited the Sick and Shut-in. He also served as a Record Keeper, Senior Ministry Leader, member of the Transportation Ministry, and as a Missionary and former President of Spartanburg Community Memorial Committee. Jesse’s dedication to his church reflected his strong faith and his desire to serve others.

Those who preceded him in death include his loving wife, Vivian F. Harris; his daughter, Belinda A. Harris; his parents, Joseph and Mozelle Harris; and his siblings, Josephine Middleton, Clarence “Buttercup” Harris, and William “Fat” Harris.

Jesse’s memory will be cherished by his surviving family: his son, Jesse (Stacey) Harris; his daughters, Regina (Rayfield) Hamrick and Angela Canty, all of Spartanburg, SC. He leaves behind his beloved grandchildren: Raphael A. Hamrick, Jesse C. Harris, Raheem A. Hamrick, Shakur J. Harris, Marcus A. Brown III, and Kamiya Vivian S. Canty; and his great-grandchildren: Javion T. Hamrick, Alaysia A. Hamrick, Maleah R. Hamrick, Zania S. Hamrick, Carter N. Hamrick, Olivia N. Gibeck, Onyx A. Brown, and Wren N. Brown.

He is also survived by one sister, Mary West of Spartanburg, SC; two brothers-in-law, Ray (Bernadine) Hall of Raleigh, NC and Desmond (Tonji) Falls of Boiling Springs, SC; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, church family, and friends who loved him dearly.

Jesse will be remembered for his warm spirit, his dedication to family, his faithful service to God, his love for nature, and the countless memories he created and shared. His legacy of love, service, and faith will continue to live on through all those whose lives he touched.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, September 5, 2025 at 11:00 am at New Day Baptist Church, Spartanburg, SC. Burial will follow in the Lincoln Memorial Gardens.
