Mr. Bobbie Gean Hardie, 80, passed away on Sunday, September 7, 2025, at Atrium WFBH-High Point Medical Center. He was born on July 16, 1945, to the late Evelina Hardie Lee.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia (PD) Dawkins Hardie; siblings, Maxine Brand, Earline Everett, and Clarence James Hardie.
Bobby, affectionately called "Jimmy" by his family and friends, was of the Baptist faith. For an impressive fifty-three years, he devoted himself to his role as a truck driver at Piedmont Trucking Center, where he was known for his reliability and strong work ethic. His unwavering dedication and kindness left a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
In 1968, Bobbie, along with James Lyles and John C. Lyles, came together to form a music group known as the John Lyles Blues Band. Bobbie took on the role of drummer, showcasing his rhythmic talents. The group was dedicated to exploring the rich traditions of blues music, bringing their unique influences and styles into their performances. They captivated audiences with their energy and musicianship as they played at various venues.
He is survived by his son, Darryl Swindell, Sr., nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; he is also survived by his sister, Thelma Oxendine (Willie) of High Point, NC; his brother, Thomas Lee, Jr. of Winston Salem, NC; special friend Clara Wallace; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, September 13, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Service Chapel. The family will receive friends in the chapel from 3:30 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.
