Mother Loredia Sarrett Byers was born to the late Mattie Hambright on May 16, 1933 in Cleveland County, North Carolina. She was raised by her aunt and uncle, the late Hoyt and Ovida Sarratt. She transitioned from this earthly life to her heavenly reward surrounded by her loved ones on September 6, 2025.
Mother Byers was a proud graduate of William Penn High School in High Point NC. In 1972, she received her degree in Early Childhood Development from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro which led her to open her In-Home daycare. She received her license as a Certified Nursing Assistant in 1982 and spent the remainder of her career at Village Green Retirement Home where she later retired.
After retiring, she embraced her love for traveling. She absolutely adored the beach. One of her greatest traveling accomplishments was being able to tour The Holy Land.
Above all, Mother Byers was known for her unwavering faith and hope in Christ. Throughout her years in church, she happily served on the Nurses Aid Committee, Gospel Choir, and Deaconess Board. Her faith, compassion, kindness and dedication to her family and loved ones has left a profound impact on all who knew her. Her legacy of great strength, unconditional love and service will live on in the hearts of each person she touched.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 66 years, James Harold Byers; son Jerry E. Byers, 2 brothers Kenneth Bess and Phillip Bess, sister Corine Virginia Perry, 2 daughters in law Diane Byers and Gail Miller and goddaughter Crystal Brooks.
Mother Byers leaves to cherish her memory: daughter Sylvia Morgan, son James A. Byers, son Stanley Byers (Chantelle), brother Martin Bess Jr., brother Charles Bess, and sister Mattie Jordan. Grandchildren: Kimberly Brown, Dawn Moreland (Michael), Charita Walker and Loren Byers (Ullin), and Andy Herbin (Kathy). Greatgrandchildren: Justice Logan (Dalen), Jerrian Byers, JaHyra Byers, Jade Moreland, Jasmine Moreland, Mario Herbin. Great-great-grandchildren: Aubrey Logan, Abigail Logan, Wynter Redfearn, and Serenity Redfearn. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and play children who she dearly loved.
Funeral service will be held Thursday, September 18, 2025, in the Cassie Coote-Brown Memorial Chapel at Perry J. Brown Funeral Home Chapel located at 909 East Market Street, Greensboro, North Carolina, 27406 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be held prior at 10:30 a.m.
Burial will follow at Salisbury National Cemetery,1:30pm 501 Statesville, Boulevard, Salisbury, NC 28144.
