Obituary For Clary Smith Sr.

CAMP CROFT, SPARTANBURG- Clary Hood Smith Sr., 90, passed away on Thursday, January 10th, 2019. He was born in 1928. He graduated from Clemson College in 1950 and was drafted into the US Army in 1951 during the Korean Conflict where he earned a Bronze Star for Heroism. He was a member of Jaycees, Lions Club, a SC Legislator from 1963 – 1966, a Member of Board of Directors for Spartanburg General Hospital, he was on the Board of Directors and was a Chairman for District 7 Schools of Spartanburg, he was a Minister at Mountain View Nursing Home, he was owner of Clary Smith Oil Company, and partner with Carroll Smith-Smith Exxon, and was a lifetime farmer. He was preceded in death by his parents, M.B. Smith II and Maude Lyllian Hood, and one brother, M.B. Smith III. His survivors include wife, Betty Ruth Blanchard Smith; his brother, Sanford Smith; four children, Clary Smith, Jr. (Bud) and wife, Beth, Ric M. Smith and wife, Sissy, Mark L. Smith and wife, Krissy, and Joy C. Smith; eight grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. Services will be held on Sunday, January 13 at 2:00pm at Cedar Springs Baptist Church, 140 Cedar Spring Place, Spartanburg. Services by Dr. Todd Lowe and Rev. Ozzie Mabry. American Legion Post 28 overseeing services. Visitation will be held after the services. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Cedar Springs Baptist Church General Fund.
