MRS. MINNIE LEE HARRISON BASKERVILLE peacefully transitioned from this life surrounded by family on Wednesday, September 11, 2025. She enjoyed a beautiful life filled with love, service, and cherished memories shared with family and friends.
Born on August 3, 1949, in Mecklenburg County, VA, Minnie was the daughter of the late Odell and Virginia Boyd Harrison. She was preceded in death by five sisters and three brothers. Minnie was united in marriage to the late William Holden Baskerville, Jr. on July 5, 1975.
At an early age, Minnie was baptized at the First Baptist Church in Lacrosse, VA, and later became a devoted member of Mt. Horeb Baptist Church in Washington, D.C.
She attended East End High School in South Hill, VA and after graduating she went to Southside Skill Center in Crew, VA and later went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree from Southeastern University.
Professionally, Minnie dedicated 34 years of service to the Federal Government, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the US Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration. Minnie was one of the Founding Members of the Garrett A. Morgan Association (GAMA), at the Department of Transportation. This group was established to assure that African American contributions in the transportation arena would be recognized. After her retirement, she pursued a career with H&R Block, as a Senior Tax Analyst. She was very dedicated to assisting her clients with the preparation of their taxes.
Minnie joined Martha Chapter No 11, Order of the Eastern Star, Prince Hall Affiliation, Jurisdiction of the District of Columbia, in 2019. Minnie was a dedicated member of Martha Chapter. She was appointed as Trustee of the North and served her position faithfully. She was also on the Board of Directors of Bethany, Inc. a non-profit in Washington, DC that supported homeless families and contributed to the education and support of elementary school students in Wards 7 and 8 in DC.
Minnie had a passion for traveling. Her goal was to travel to all seven continents, she achieved five: Asia, Africa, Europe, South America, and North America. She loved to take scenic photos at all destinations. Minnie would make sure to purchase a watch, charm, or ring as a memento of her trips.
She loved watching the View, MSNB, football- especially her Washington Commanders and wearing hats.
Minnie leaves to cherish her memory: one sister, Naomi Johnson of Atlanta, GA; two devoted brothers, Alfonser Harrison “Pete”(Gail) and Jimmy Harrison (Stephanie Wagner) all of LaCrosse, VA; six sisters-in-law, Gloria Harrison of Lacrosse, VA; Gloria Clarke, Gertrude Powell, Kitty Jones, Nannie Jones, Shirley Jeffers all of Richmond, VA, two brothers-in-law, Willie Allen of Wilmington, NC and Terone Davis of Richmond, VA; a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and dear friends; along with her devoted life partner, Romaine Francis.
She was admired for her strong faith, generous spirit, and unwavering devotion to family and community.
Her legacy of family, love, faith, and dedication will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
