On Saturday, September 27, 2025, our beloved mother, grandmother and friend, Ethel Gravely Farrell, 85, peacefully transitioned from this earthly life at Stanleytown Health & Rehab center. She was born in Bluefield, West VA on July 15, 1940, the daughter of the late David Gravely and Irma Turner Gravely.
In addition to her parents, Ethel was preceded in death by her husband, Charles D. Farrell; two sisters, Vera Carter and Ester Carter and four brothers, William Gravely, David Gravely, Cecil Gravely and Charles Gravely.
Ethel was a member of St. Paul High Street Baptist Church where she was a member of the choir, Sunday School and sang with the Canary Harmonizers. She was a graduate of Kimball High School, Kimball West VA. Ethel retired from HRI Hospital, Brookline, MA where she was a receptionist.
Above all Ethel loved her family and leaves behind a legacy of love, faith and resilience through her two daughters, Carolyn E. Dilworth (Andrew) of Las Vegas, NV and Angela G. Niblett (Felix) of Martinsville, VA; two sons, Charles D. Farrell.III and George A. Farrell of Boston, MA; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; one sister, Shirley Shannon of NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
A visitation service will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. with the funeral service at 11 a.m. at St. Paul High Street Baptist Church, 401 Fayette St., Martinsville with Reverend Thomas Devins, Eulogist. Interment will be private.
A public viewing will be held on Friday, October 3, 2025, at Hairston Funeral Home, 301 Fayette St., Martinsville between the hours of 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. Other times, the family will receive friends at the residence, 311 Wren Ct., Martinsville from 12:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Live streaming of the funeral service will be available at Hairston Funeral Home live via Facebook.
