Mr. George William Powell

Mr. George William Powell, more affectionately known as “GP” and "Six Flags" by his friends and family, was born on May 13, 1941, to the late Mrs. Marie Walton Powell and the late Mr. Jimmy Lee Powell Sr. in Talbotton, Talbot County, GA.

He was educated in the public schools of Talbot County and later moved to Upson County. He joined the Rising Star Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor C.L. Perdue and was later baptized under the leadership of the late Pastor E.C. Willis. He enjoyed going to church and hearing the preached word before his health failed.

He was a hard worker and began working in his young adult years. His first job was with the R.C. Bottling Company as a mixer. He also worked for Thomaston Mills, Thomaston County Club, Thomaston Meat Processing Plant and as a lawn keeper.

George was a family man, and he never neglected to take care of his mother. During his early years, he enjoyed playing golf, fellowshipping with his family and friends, doing yard work and listening to gospel music all day on Sunday.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Ethel Mae King and Pam Cook and three brothers, Leonard Paul Powell, Dennis Mizel and Jimmy Lee Powell Jr. On Thursday, September 25, 2025, the Lord called him home from labor to reward. His sudden passing has saddened the hearts of his family, but his memory will live on.

He leaves to cherish his memory, one son, Mr. Charlie Powell; one whom he raised as a daughter, Ms. Hope Green; a devoted companion, Ms. Georgia Green; seven sisters, Annie (Tony) Clark, Annie Francis Powell, Annie Clyde (Donny) Harig, Henrietta Bowman, Annie Clark, Georgia Woods and Brenda Cook; four brothers, James Mizell, Larry Cook, Johnny (Ida Mae) Mizell and Robert Cook; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives friends.
