It is with both sorrow for our loss and joy for her eternal reward that we announce the passing of Eloise Littlejohn Whitworth, who was welcomed into the loving arms of Jesus on Monday, October 6, 2025, at the age of 101, at Westchester Manor in High Point, NC.
Affectionately known as “Mother” to her family and friends, Eloise was born on June 13, 1924, in Cherokee County, SC, to the late Eunice Mitchell Littlejohn and Horace Graham.
She received her education at Marysville School in Pacolet, SC. In the early 1950s, she relocated to High Point, NC, where she later met and married the love of her life,
Samuel Whitworth. They shared 61 years of marriage. Eloise was employed with the Guilford County School System as a cook for 20 years, where she joyfully served countless students and staff.
As a devoted follower of Christ, Mother lived a life rooted in faith, service, and love. For over 50 years, she was a faithful member of First Emmanuel Baptist Church, where she served as an Adult Sunday School Teacher for 25 years and as a dedicated member of the Senior Usher Board for 30 years. Even after her health began to decline, she remained steadfast in her devotion—continuing to study her Bible and support her church family.
Mother was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. One of her greatest joys was preparing delicious meals for her loved ones, always ensuring there was enough for everyone, and every dish served as a reflection of her love and generosity.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Whitworth; sisters, Ethel Thomas and Susie Mae Lipscomb; brothers, John Graham, Ernest Graham, and Boyd Hermon Graham; and daughters, Eunice “Ruby” Nance and Shelby “Charlene” Whitworth.
Her precious memory will forever be cherished by her children: John Henderson of Savannah, GA; Shirley Ingram of High Point, NC; Carl (Cassandra) Chandler of Aberdeen, NC; Ella Mae Henderson of High Point, NC; Dorothy (Ulysses) Bell of Elizabeth, NC; Gardenia “Dean” Taylor of High Point, NC; Tina (Wendall) Pickett of Trinity, NC; Ronnie Whitworth of High Point, NC; and Larry (Donna) Whitworth of High Point, NC; she is also survived by one sister, Nannie Mae (Marvin) Shane of Cherokee County, SC; twenty-five grandchildren, thirty-eight great-grandchildren, twenty-five great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who loved her deeply.
A Homegoing Celebration will be held on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. at First Emmanuel Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. Interment will be held will be held Monday, October 13, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Carolina Biblical Gardens. A public viewing will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home in High Point, NC.
