(In Loving Memory of James Mckenzie Alexander)

On October 3, 2025, James McKenzie Alexander peacefully completed his earthly journey and answered the call of his Heavenly Father.

James McKenzie was born on November 12, 1947, in Mecklenburg County, Virginia, to the late James Hartwell Alexander and the late Lizzie Anna Epps. He received his early education through the Mecklenburg County School System and proudly graduated from East End High School.

Following graduation, James honorably served his country in the United States Army, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. After completing his military service, he began a successful career with ExxonMobil Corporation, where he worked for many years as a Computer Analyst.

On April 1, 1972, James was united in marriage to his beloved friend and partner, the late Mary Alice Hall Alexander. Their union was blessed with two sons, Juan and Jamail Alexander, who remain a lasting reflection of their parents’ love and devotion.

Beyond his professional life, James was deeply devoted to serving his community. He faithfully served as a Cub Scout Master for Troop 642 at Goodwill Baptist Church in Bronx, New York, where he mentored and guided countless young men. He also played an active role in his neighborhood community garden, serving as treasurer and lent his leadership and financial stewardship as manager, bookkeeper, and treasurer of the 1974-76 Lafontaine Avenue Co-op Building Board. His integrity, generosity, and quiet leadership enriched every community he touched.

After retiring from ExxonMobil, James and his late wife Mary relocated to Boydton, Virginia, returning to his hometown roots. There, he enjoyed the simple pleasures of life—making frequent trips to Walmart, where he was well-known by many, and spending peaceful hours fishing, one of his favorite pastimes.

His loving and cherished memories are being embraced by his two sons: Dr. Juan M. Alexander, Sr. of Tallahassee, Florida, and Jamail M. Alexander of Bronx, New York; four adored grandchildren: Ashley Nichole Alexander “Ashcake”, Juan M. Alexander II, Alana Renee Alexander “Lani”, and Julian David Alexander “Juju”; two brothers: Legenza Alexander of Bronx, New York, and Talamadge Alexander of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; and two sisters: Peggy Allen of Henderson, North Carolina, and Betty Venable of Newark, New Jersey.

He also leaves to cherish his memory three sisters-in-law: Helen Hall of Emporia, Virginia; Barbara Chinn of Baltimore, Maryland; and Patricia Rhodes of Towson, Maryland; and two brothers-in-law: Samuel Russell of Baltimore, Maryland, and James of Denver, Colorado. He is also remembered with love by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will forever treasure his kindness, humor, and unwavering devotion.

James lived a life marked by faith, humility, and service. Though he has departed this earthly home, his spirit and legacy will forever remain in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
