MRS. SELMA ELAINE WRIGHT BACOTE affectionately called “Sel the Boss,” daughter of the late Royal Wright and Frances Bagley Wright was born November 19, 1943 in Bronx, NY and departed this life October 9, 2025, peacefully at her residence, Boydton, VA. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Frances E. Wright and Marjorie L. Headen and brother, Roy Irving Wright.

She was baptized and joined Jerusalem United Church of Christ, Palmer Springs, VA.

Selma graduated from Jane Addams Vocational High School in 1961.

She was joined in holy matrimony to the late Lester Bacote and to this union a son, Shawn M. Bacote, was born.

She was employed by Knit Waves for many years until she relocated to Virginia. She later starting working at McKissick Assisted Living Center, Soul City, N.C. as a Registered Nurse.

“Sel the Boss” was a loving and giving person. She loved shopping, dancing, and was always on top of the latest music. Smokey Robinson was her favorite artist.

Selma leaves to cherish her memory: her son- Shawn (Liliane) Bacote, Boydton, VA; two grandchildren- Kyrell Williams, Henderson, NC and Diamond Evans, Columbia, SC; two great-grandchildren; three step-children, Lester Jr. and Rodney Bacote, of New York, NY and Nicole White, Maryland; one step-grandchild; sister- Shirley (Joe) Dixon, South Hill, VA; brother-in-law, Henry Haden, South Hill, VA; aunt- Bertha White, Boydton, VA; nieces/daughters- Melanie and Crystal Wright; cousins/sisters- Bernice and Crystal Allen; devoted cousins and neighbors- Ronnie and Carolyn Alexander and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
