Gregory Hickson, affectionately known as “Crab” entered into rest Sunday, October 12, 2025, in Piedmont Hospital. Born March 4, 1957, in Augusta, Ga., Gregory lived with energy, laughter and a love for connecting with people.
He joined Greater Young Zion Baptist Church at an early age and served on the Usher Board until he transferred to Atlanta, GA., for his job.
A proud graduate of Richmond Academy, Class of 1975, Gregory began his career at MCG and later joined CSX, where he worked faithfully and retired as a Locomotive Engineer. His strong work ethic, reliability, and dedication left a lasting impression on colleagues and friends alike.
A true people person, he never met a stranger. Gregory had a gift for making everyone feel welcome and valued-always ready with a smile, a joke, or a helping hand. He loved swimming, sports, and simply enjoying life with family and friends. Whether cheering from the sidelines or sharing a good story, he found joy in every moment.
Gregory cherished those closest to him, creating countless memories that will forever live in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
He leaves behind a legacy of warmth, laughter and genuine kindness - a reminder to live full, love deeply and make every day count.
He is preceded in death by his loving parents, Earlie A. and Corrie M. Hickson; his wonderful grandparents, Smart and Lou Bryant; beloved sister, Beverly Hartfield; sister-in-law, Harriet McIntyre Hickson and brother-in-law, Willie Hollimon.
He leaves to cherish his memory: siblings, Deborah Hollimon Hickson, Augusta, Ga., Barry A. Hickson, Nashville, TN., and Earlie E. Hickson (Sarah), Augusta, GA., niece, Harlena (Kevin) Banks; nephews, Barry A. Hickson, Jr., Marcus D. Hickson (Ranata), Nashville, TN., and Marlon (Vanessa) Hickson, Clarksville, TN., a host of loving relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be 12 noon, Monday, October 20, 2025, at Greater Young Zion Baptist Church, 405 Sand Bar Ferry Road. Interment will follow in Walker Memorial Park.
