EARNESTINE JONES STUKES, daughter of the late Lawrence O. Jones and Annie Mae Tisdale Jones, was born March 10, 1962 in Mecklenburg County, VA and departed this life October 15, 2025, at her residence. She was also preceded in death by a daughter- Latoya S. Jones, known to many as “Tweety Bird” and her siblings- Lawrence Jones, Jr., Zelma Washington, and Edith King.
At an early she was baptized and joined Whittle Grove Baptist Church where she was a dedicated and faithful member until her demise. She, also was a member of the Whittle Grove Sr. Choir, Sunday School and she attended bible study regularly. Earnestine was a member of her family gospel singing group (named after her father), the LOJ Gospel Singers. She adored singing so much that she joined a community choir, the A. P. Walker Mass Choir.
She attended the Mecklenburg County Public Schools and later graduated from the Job Corps. In 1995, she was married to Wardell Stukes. Earnestine was employed for over 17 years at Wal-Mart Pharmacy in South Hill, VA and welcome everyone with a smile.
In her spare time, she loved to cook, sing, spend time with family, and playing board games and games on her cell phone. When you approached Earnestine, she would greet you by saying “Hey Ladybug” and if you asked her how she is doing, her reply would be “I’m Bless”. She had a loving, caring, and humble spirit that will forever be cherished and missed.
Earnestine leaves to cherish her memory: her two daughters- Shelly (Marcus) Hendricks, Raleigh, NC and Asiah Stukes (Mikale Walker), of the home; two grandchildren- Yasmine and Shimya Hendricks, both of South Hill, VA; two bonus grandchildren- Tanner Hendricks and Seona Stancil; three sisters- Fannie (Harold ) Bennett and Felicia Jones-Peterson, all of South Hill, VA; Rev. Brenda (Calvin) Hutcheson, Bracey, VA; three brothers- Wayne Jones, Suffolk, VA; Don Jones, Lawrenceville, VA and Rev. Garry Jones, Glen Allen, VA; step-mom- Frances B. Jones, South Hill, VA; four aunts- Maccie Farrar, Petersburg, VA; Mary Tisdale, Richmond, VA and Michelle Tisdale, South Hill, VA and Gladys Jones, Brodnax, VA; devoted nephew and niece-Travis and Rakieta Jones, Brodnax, VA; devoted cousins- Leon Sturdivant, Bernadine Miller, Jackie Sturdivant; devoted friends- Linda Evans, Gwenervere Alexander, L. Diane Baskerville and Deloris Russell, and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
