Carlton Martes Dayton, Sr. “Martes”, age 70, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2025, after an extended illness.

Born and raised in Nashville, Carlton graduated from Hume-Fogg High School and went on to join the Nashville Fire Academy in 1977. He proudly served his community as a member of the Nashville Fire Department, dedicating his career to helping others with courage, compassion, and commitment.

Carlton was deeply devoted to his family and friends, living each day with kindness, optimism, and a generous spirit. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, traveling, reading, and watching his favorite classic westerns. A talented musician, Carlton enjoyed playing several instruments, including the saxophone and bass guitar.

He will be remembered for his steady strength, warm smile, and the genuine care he showed to everyone he met.

Carlton is survived by his wife of 22 years, Patricia; their son, Carlton Jr.; stepson, Calvin; and three daughters, Micah, Jarius (Jerome), and Brandi (Ervin). He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Michael, Izek, Courtland, Malachi, Daimon, Kairee, Thessalonia, Giovonni, Demia, Deatrice, Chance, and Karlie; great grandchildren, Ka’Riyah, Izek Jr., Izadora, Denahi, Nyla, Kaleah, Gia, and Mahjar; and siblings, Cedric (Linda), Maurice (Lisa), and Angela (William). He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl Dayton and Lola Dayton (Trammel). He is also survived by many beloved nephews and cousins, all of whom held a special place in his heart.

A private celebration of life is scheduled for family and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Carlton’s name to Alive Hospice.
