Rebecca Pearl Adkins-Carothers
March 10, 1932 — October 26, 2025

Rebecca was born March 10, 1932 in Nashville, Tennessee to the late Manuel Adkins Sr. and Addie (Gosey) Adkins. She was preceded in death by her husband William German Carothers and her seven siblings: Manuel Adkins Jr., Walter Adkins, Dorsay Ford, Mary Adkins Childress, Maviron Adkins, Melanie Adkins, and Reginald Adkins.

Rebecca obeyed the gospel at the age of 13 at the Horton Street church of Christ and was baptized by brother Byron. She began her early education at Carter-Lawrence Elementary School, Cameron Jr. High School and graduated from Pearl High School June 1950. She later went on to attend Tennessee Agricultural & Industrial State College now known as Tennessee State University.

She was joined in holy matrimony to William G. Carothers on April 26, 1954. They were married for over 43 years until his death.

Rebecca was employed in various positions throughout her work career. She retired from Centennial Medical Center in March 1994 after 21 years of service as an Anesthesia Technician. She enjoyed Ladies Bible Classes, Ladies Retreats, and teaching her 1st & 2nd grade Bible classes. She also taught VBS and Ladies Bible Class for many years. Her favorite Bible scripture was Romans 8:28: “And we know that all things work for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.”

She enjoyed traveling, shopping, music, photography, and always greeted you with a smile. She had a gift of hospitality, serving family and friends dinner in her home for many years. She said she wanted to be remembered as having done what she could. She will be dearly missed by all whose lives she touched and those who knew her.

She leaves to cherish her love and fond memories: her four devoted children: George C. Carothers (Atlanta, GA), William D. (Alwanda) Carothers, Don E. (Angela) Carothers, and Brenda A. Carothers; Eight grandchildren: Shameca Harris, Carlton Blakley, Kiya Reed, Adam Carothers, Leah Carothers, Chaz Carothers, Kayla Carothers and Alex Carothers; and several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
