Olivia Jones Carter was born on December 23, 1944, in Lakeland, Louisiana, to the late Reverend Cenas and Julia Moore Jones. A lifelong resident of Louisiana, she peacefully entered eternal rest at her home in Baton Rouge on Thursday, October 30, 2025.

Olivia was educated in the Pointe Coupee and West Baton Rouge Parish school systems and was a proud graduate of Cohn High School and Southern University. Dedicated to the field of education, she taught Mathematics at Baker High School for 30 years, leaving a lasting impact on generations of students. Her passion for learning and helping others also led her to pursue studies at Pensacola Theological Seminary and Light University, where she focused on biblical counseling.

Throughout her life, Olivia remained deeply devoted to her faith and church service. While a member of St. Alma Baptist Church, she faithfully served as an Usher and Sunday School Teacher. Later, as a member of Greater New Guide Baptist Church, she continued her service as an Associate Minister, Director of the Family Learning Center, and as both Teacher and Superintendent of Sunday School. She also shared her knowledge and faith as an instructor with the Fourth District Missionary Baptist Association.

On August 19, 1967, Olivia was united in marriage to the late George Carter, and together they built a beautiful life grounded in love and faith. Their union was blessed with three children. She leaves to cherish her memory a daughter, Rhonda Matthews; two sons, Chetwin (Latoya) and Ivan (Toccara) Carter; and six beloved grandchildren, Destiny and Micaiah Carter, Rekai Matthews, Chetwin II and Chambers Carter, and Ian Carter. She is also survived by her brothers, Earnest Jones and Cenas (Jacqueline) Jones; sisters, Carolyn Jones, Florida (Eugene) Collins, Thelma Jones, and Irma Johnson; sister-in-law, Thelma L. Jones; former daughter-in-law, Sivitra Carter; former son-in-law, Monty Matthews; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, grandson, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Olivia’s life was one of faith, service, and love — a shining example of Christian grace and dedication. Her legacy will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 6, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Hall’s Celebration Center, 9348 Scenic Highway, Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Visitation will resume on Friday, November 7, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at New Light Missionary Baptist Church, 650 Blount Road, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, followed by the funeral service at 12:00 noon, officiated by Rev. Fred Jeff Smith. Interment will follow at Louisiana National Cemetery in Zachary, Louisiana.
